Job description

Job Summary
The team working on Zero Emissions solutions is looking for a collaborative and driven engineer with a focus on research and product development. Our project goal is to define and develop clean energy transportation solutions. The Zero Emissions team works closely with Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF divisions and drives global product development activities. This project focuses on the development of thermal management solutions and will be followed by subsequent projects related to truck design and development. In this role you will have opportunities for creative problem-solving and exploration. As a member of the team, you will have input on the direction of the project and the opportunity to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in creating a path to a cleaner, sustainable future.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Develop efficient and cost-effective solutions for thermal management systems
  • Conceptualize packaging of complex systems to achieve excellent space utilization and flexibility.
  • Develop concepts into detailed CAD assemblies utilizing Creo software.
  • Develop an understanding of technology trends, and how those trends will affect vehicle design, to create the right solutions for the future.
  • Collaborate with other team members, departments, major divisions of PACCAR, and suppliers to successfully develop and implement new layouts.
  • Be able to travel <10% of the time, including international travel.

Qualifications / Skills
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field required and in-depth experience in designing and specifying automotive, aerospace, or HD truck components desired.
  • 1-3+ years' experience with multiple systems or whole vehicle architecture required.
  • Ability to visualize and influence the interactions between mechanical and electrical systems
  • Willingness and ability to work in a hand-on environment with system and truck prototypes.
  • Willingness to grow personally and professionally, ready to learn and make use of new engineering processes and techniques.
  • Resourcefulness in solving complex technical problems.
  • Ability to perform and/or lead development efforts, and coach others on design techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency using Pro-E/CREO Parametric or other modeling software.
  • Competency in MS Office suite of tools.
  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo.

Preferred Qualifications / Skills
  • Background in defining thermal management architectures with an understanding of technology and regulatory trends.
  • Familiarity with control specifications and ASPICE process
  • Experience with tools such as Windchill, MS Teams and Co-Pilot/ Claude / OpenAI.
  • Understanding of engineering project management process
  • Data analysis of FEA and CFD results
