Job description

SUMMARY

Responsible for developing biblical design concepts and the timely completion of quality layouts for the production of printed and downloadable products, reprints, periodicals, and marketing materials.

Provide ancillary graphics, web graphics, presentation graphics, and electronic documents for products and marketing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure high quality aesthetics on all projects.

Responsible for the concept, design, and production work on books, e-books, music, periodicals, reprints, advertising, and other projects as assigned:

  • Articulate and pitch design concepts to Editorial and Marketing leads.
  • Design and lay out book interiors.
  • Design and produce book cover layouts.
  • Design and lay out direct-mail advertising pieces.
  • Complete corrections after layout.
  • Prepare and post files for the printing vendor and e-book vendor.
  • Maintain archive files of completed projects.
  • Provide web graphics of proprietary products.
  • Provide ancillary graphics as assigned.
  • Work with print buyer to ensure quality products.
  • Provide electronic files and graphics as needed.
  • Check printer proofs, color proofs, and digital proofs.
  • Accurately enter time into the job system and verify it is charge to the correct job.

  • An associate (two-year) degree or bachelor’s (four-year) degree (preferred).
  • Two years of related work experience, preferably in publishing, an advertising agency, or internal creative department.
  • Strong computer skills, with expertise in Adobe Creative Suite. Specifically, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications will be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of Bible stories and church history and symbolism desired for product concepting and marketing purposes.
  • Aptitude for developing visual concepts from Editorial content.
  • Able to work on multiple projects at one time as well as maintain and adhere to deadline-driven schedules and budget restrictions.  
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Portfolio showing strong visual design and typography skills and a grasp of both four- and one-color print workspaces in advertising and single- and multiple-page layouts.
  • Basic knowledge of offset lithography, prepress and file preparation for print design.
