POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the Program Director, the Martial Arts Instructor will assist and lead introduction to Martial Arts classes. The Martial Arts Instructor will build positive relationships with program participants and ensure the safety, well-being, and involvement of participants. Help to nurture the self-esteem, confidence, and core values of each and every participant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches martial arts to elementary aged children.
  • Demonstrates techniques and procedures for martial arts curriculum.
  • Observes students' skills to define students' progress or to make suggestions.
  • Maintains a clean and safe workspace.
  • Provides a safe and enjoyable environment for members and their children.
  • Greets every parent and child as they arrive and depart from the area and ensures that parents/guardians follow the sign in/sign out procedures for drop off and pick up according to Y policies/procedures.
  • Represents the YMCA and interacts with members in a friendly, engaging and professional manner.
  • Communicates in a professional and positive manner to parents, guests, and other associates.
  • Provides a safe and enjoyable environment for members.
  • Maintains a safe environment by directly supervising children throughout the program area - encouraging positive behaviors, knowing where each child is at all times and never leaving a child unattended, maintaining the sign in/sign out sheet, identifying potential hazards in the area, and adhering to Y policies and standards.
  • Follows standards and policies as explained in the Tampa YMCA Employee Handbook.
  • Enforces all rules and makes effective decision making to assure the safety and security of program participants.
  • Attends staff meetings and training programs, as required.
