MUST have education units to be eligible.This recruitment will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies City-wide.THE OPPORTUNITYThe Child Care Instructor plays a vital role in planning and executing educational and recreational programs for school-age children under the general direction of the Child Care Site Supervisor. This grant-funded, temporary position involves assisting in the day-to-day operations of the childcare and development center, providing supervision to Child Care Assistants and Aides, and ensuring a safe and enriching environment for the children.

IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate for the Child Care Instructor position is a dedicated and compassionate individual with a strong understanding of child development principles and effective techniques for supervising school-age children. They should have experience in planning and conducting structured activities such as sports, games, arts & crafts, and social activities. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to serve as a positive role model for children. They should be knowledgeable in basic first aid/CPR and capable of handling sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy. The ideal candidate should be available to work during weekdays, after school, and all day during school vacation periods, and be committed to providing high-quality customer service. This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about child development and enjoys working in a dynamic and supportive environment.
MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSA typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or equivalent and 24 Units of college coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE or Child Development (CD), and a minimum of 6 months paid experience working with children. Child Development Permit or Children's Center Permit at the Associate Teacher level issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Certificate in Red Cross Basic first aid/CPR (may be obtained within first six months of employment).
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS- CHILD CARE INSTRUCTOR I: The Child Care Instructor I is the entry-level class in this series, in which incumbents receive orientation and training and must progress toward Instructor II classification. Must have 12 Units of college coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE or Child Development (CD))
- CHILD CARE INSTRUCTOR II: The Child Care Instructor II is the journey-level class in the series and requires greater experience and additional college-level units in Early Childhood Education. Must have 24 Units of college coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE or Child Development (CD))
