Job description

As an analyst or associate in the Strategic Risk & Capital Solutions team within the Global Capital Market (GCM) team at National Bank of Canada Capital Markets, you will focus on risk & capital optimization solutions to manage risk, improve portfolio return and reduce cost of capital.

You will be responsible for carrying out detailed quantitative analysis, like cost analysis comparison among our different hedging tools, you will support the Vice president and Managing Director in execution, reporting & evaluation of optimal portfolio mix, run sensitivity analysis, identify opportunities for managing limit and capital more efficiently.

Your responsibilities cover the overall corporate loan portfolio, which is diversified among multiple industries and sectors, as required you will also need to interact with external partners such as Credit risk, Risk analytical & modelling team, operation and back-office team, accounting team as well as capital group among others.

You will evolve into a team of highly motivated professionals, collaborate and learn about a broad range of capital markets products. This position appeals to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in an entrepreneurial, fast paced and high-energy environment.


Your Job

  • Conducting portfolio risk assessment in support of single or portfolio transactions
  • Developed and improved existing model to assess cost and return of our different hedging tools
  • Preparation of materials and presentations to internal stakeholders or insurers
  • Involved in deal flow and execution of hedges using credit risk insurance
  • Interact with back office and front office for trade execution and management post execution
  • Production of different risk reports and ad hoc analysis (e.g.: run RAROC simulation, analyzed cost benefit alternatives)
  • Performing various tasks supporting senior team members in their deal execution and client/insurance coverage


Your Team

You will be joining a dynamic and expanding team, reporting to the Managing Director Risk & Capital Solution who report to the Head Strategic Risk & Portfolio Management

This role is not focused on specific client relationships but looks at managing and optimizing the corporate loan portfolio for future growth and will involve multiple interaction with different internal partners and some exposure to external parties such as insurers, investors and regulators

This role will provide an excellent opportunity to better understand how the business works. Basic Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting or related field
  • At least 1-3 years of corporate finance, risk management experience
  • Strong analytical and exceptional financial modeling skills
  • Proficiency in the creation of PowerPoint presentations and other written documents
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with time sensitive deliverables
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships
