Job description

JOB CATEGORY: PSR / SUPPORT CARE / DEVELOPMENTAL CARE / COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE

POSITION SUMMARY: This position works in a variety of settings to provide individual training including the major components of basic living skills development, psychosocial skills training and therapeutic socialization.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Education, Special Education or a related field; OR Associate's degree in Human Services or related field, plus two years' experience in providing services in the functional area taught (e.g., psychosocial education, basic living skills, etc.); OR High school diploma or GED and four years' experience providing services in the functional area being taught;

AND minimum of one year experience working with individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) or co-occurring (SMI and Substance Abuse) disorders.

OR Qualification as a Certified Peer Specialist:

  • 18 Years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of mental health and/or substance abuse services.
  • Must have demonstrated mental health or substance abuse recovery of two years and can provide written certification.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • If qualifies as a Certified Peer Specialist, must have certification as a Certified Peer Specialist through the approved state of New Mexico certification program. Must obtain certification by date of hire and maintain current throughout employment.
  • Have or be able to obtain First Aid and BLS/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire. Certifications must meet the requirements listed in the document "BLS / CPR / ACLS & First Aid Training Resources" posted on Staurolite. It is your responsibility to keep your certifications current at all times.

SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires successful completion of an initial post-offer of employment:

  • According to PMS Human Resources Policy 205.006, "Healthcare Personnel Testing & Immunization Requirements," this position must comply with required testing and immunizations. Testing and immunizations including TB, Hepatitis B (consent or waiver), Tdap, MMR, and Varicella, will be available at the employee's PMS health center. Influenza vaccines will be required according to dates set by the CDC and NMDOH.
  • TB Test (and upon exposure in accordance with PMS Policies).
  • Criminal Records Check.
