Job Summary

The Senior Accountant I role supports the accounting operations of the company by ensuring the general ledger and respective sub-ledgers are up to date with the most accurate information. This position will be part of the team that prepares financial reports for internal and external use, consistent with a comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the company's policies and procedures. This position reports to the Associate Controller.

You will

  • Create and post monthly journal entries within Dynamics GP (Great Plains).
  • Analyze information and maintain general ledger balances/activity by obtaining support, researching appropriate accounting treatment, and developing analysis/reports as needed.
  • Monitor, balance, and reconcile intercompany accounts for multiple Servpro companies.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations using Blackline. Provide accounting department support for Treasury related functions.
  • Take ownership of departmental reporting by having regular communications with department heads; preparing departmental budget variance analysis, ensuring accruals are booked, and report results.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including assistant with financial reporting requirements and ensuring accuracy of reported data.
  • Learn and utilize the company's financial reporting software to edit, maintain and create customized financial reports as needed.
  • Perform compliance related tasks, including property tax reporting, sales tax reporting, and certain state/federal income tax reporting. Schedule and execute quarterly tax payments.
  • Support financial consolidation and close.
  • Support preparation and delivery of timely and accurate reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Provide technical accounting support on complex and non-recurring topics.
  • Support on implementation and adoption of large-scale technologies such as new ERP and Blackline enhancement.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and a training resource.
  • Audit support – including preparation of requested documents and coordination of supporting information requested by auditors.
  • Document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls, as well as finding opportunities for process improvement, and implementing solutions.
  • Complete special projects as needed for business needs.
  • Attend continuing education trainings in areas relevant to role.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

You have

  • 4+ years of accounting experience
  • 2+ years of public accounting experience
  • Experience in general ledger and financial reporting application
  • Ability to read, write, and speak to communicate with franchisees, employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically in Excel.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Highly organized, with ability to multi-task and manage the team's completion of responsibilities by applicable deadlines.
  • Must be flexible with high reliability and able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and on a team within a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • 4-year degree in accounting or related field (required)
  • Master's degree in accounting or business administration (preferred)
  • CPA (preferred)
