ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Fixed Income Mortgage Trading Associate I supports Fifth Third's Institutional and Retail Sales teams by providing liquidity and executing trades across residential and commercial mortgage-backed securities sectors. This role is responsible for generating revenue through strategic trading, maintaining inventory positions, and ensuring operational accuracy across trade processing and compliance. The Associate will also contribute to product education, market awareness, and cross-functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities for this role are below; you may support projects of varying complexity based on skill and organizational priorities.
  • Execute trades in mortgage and fixed income securities to support Institutional and Retail Sales representatives.
  • Provide revenue-generating trade ideas and market insights to sales teams.
  • Accurately process trades using clearing systems in accordance with Fifth Third compliance standards and industry regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with sales, middle office, operations, risk management, compliance, internal business partners, and external clients.
  • Monitor, reconcile, and manage inventory positions within departmental policy limits.
  • File regulatory reports accurately and on time.
  • Deliver product training to sales teams through formal sessions and informal daily engagement.
  • Stay informed on market news, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic developments that may impact pricing, hedging, and risk strategies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Banking, Investment Banking, M&A, or Capital Markets (strong Analyst performance required for internal promotion).
  • Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Series 7, and Series 63 licenses (or ability to obtain within company policy).

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Qualified candidates will bring professional proficiency, generally acquired through 3-5 years of relevant work or internship experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Broad knowledge of the mortgage market, fixed income instruments, macroeconomics, and market structure.
  • Familiarity with trading environments and broker-dealer operations.
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Bloomberg and Microsoft Excel.
  • High attention to detail and operational accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a higher degree of proficiency (typically from 3-5 years of practical experience or advanced academic exposure) across the following areas:
