Job Summary
Under general direction, designs, builds, configures, troubleshoots and integrates new and existing servers to the Prisma Health technical environment to provide service enhancements, application deployments and infrastructure upgrades. Loads software and hardware patches which provide upgrades, fixes and enhancements to the server environment. This position diagnoses and corrects issues and is responsible for monitoring performance and system usage on a daily basis. Works with Sr System Engineers to support the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP), backup procedures and disk configurations. Supports Sr. System Engineers as requested with system analysis to keep systems current with changing technologies.
Accountabilities
  • Designs, installs, upgrades, troubleshoots and maintains server systems, Microsoft applications, including but not limited to databases running Server Group supported applications.
  • Performs server and system maintenance, monitoring and tuning to assure performance. Troubleshoots issues timely and works to resolution. Seeks support from Sr. System Engineers as needed.
  • Gathers necessary design specifications for servers, systems and OS applications from Application Analysts and / or internal customers. Designs, develops and tests new applications, servers and OS versions on systems servers in the computer lab prior to production release. Ensures systems are free of known defects before releasing to production.
  • Documents procedures and processes for maintenance and installation of server equipment. Reviews documentation as necessary or at least annually.
  • Receives and resolves user problems and requests relating to server environment. Handles tier two support requests. May handles some tier 3 support requests. Shares on-call rotation as the first contact for system related problems.
  • Assists in organization of details used in budget development.
  • Analyzes and writes specification for possible improvements of systems applications; designs, develops or recommends new or revised systems or system utilities as necessary.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field.
  • 4 years of experience- Server experience to include but not limited to, Microsoft Server 2000, 2003, 2008 32bit and 64bit, DHCP, DNS, WINS Active Directory 2003, 2008. Troubleshooting Server issues for both OS and application.

  • In lieu of the educational and experience requirements noted above, an Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field and 6 years Server experience to include but not limited to, Microsoft Server 2000, 2003, 2008 32bit and 64bit, DHCP, DNS, WINS Active Directory 2003, 2008. Troubleshooting Server issues for both OS and application; OR a High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years Server experience to include but not limited to, Microsoft Server 2000, 2003, 2008 32bit and 64bit, DHCP, DNS, WINS Active Directory 2003, 2008. Troubleshooting Server issues for both OS and application may be considered.
