What is an associate financial planner?

The job duties of an associate financial planner revolve around working to assist and support a more senior financial planner as they offer advice to clients. Your responsibilities in this career may include providing analysis about financial options, using data to make projections, helping the advisor or planner prepare for clients, meeting with clients to get their initial information, and assisting with recommendations. You may need to deal with subjects such as investment portfolio management or retirement planning. You may also perform office administration tasks such as filing paperwork and scheduling appointments.

What does an associate financial planner do?

An Associate Financial Planner supports senior financial planners in creating and implementing financial plans for clients. Their duties typically include gathering and analyzing client financial data, preparing reports, assisting with investment recommendations, and maintaining client records. They also help answer client questions and ensure that all compliance and regulatory requirements are met. This entry-level role is ideal for those starting a career in financial planning and often serves as a stepping stone to becoming a lead financial advisor.

How does an associate financial planner typically collaborate with senior advisors and clients?

Associate Financial Planners often work closely with senior advisors by supporting the development of financial plans, conducting research, and preparing client reports. They may participate in client meetings, take notes, and help implement recommendations under the supervision of a lead planner. This collaboration allows associates to gain valuable mentorship, deepen their understanding of client needs, and build strong communication skills essential for career advancement in financial planning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate financial planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Financial Planner, you need a solid grounding in finance, investment principles, and financial planning concepts, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in finance or a related field. Familiarity with financial planning software (such as eMoney or MoneyGuidePro), CRM systems, and progress toward certifications like CFP® is highly valued. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set outstanding candidates apart. These skills ensure accurate advice, client trust, and successful collaboration within a financial planning team.

Salary: $60,000–$80,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and licensing

Build Your Career With an Independent Fiduciary Firm

Are you passionate about financial planning and looking for more than just a job? Are you searching for a career where you can receive hands-on mentoring, develop into a trusted financial advisor, and build lasting client relationships?

We are seeking a motivated Associate Financial Planner to join our growing independent wealth management practice in Rockledge, Florida. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who wants to learn directly from experienced advisors while developing the technical, planning, and relationship skills needed for a successful career in wealth management.

Whether you are a recent graduate or have a few years of industry experience, we are willing to invest in the right person who shares our commitment to integrity, professionalism, and exceptional client service.

Because we are an independent fiduciary firm, your development will center on financial planning, sound advice, and building trusted client relationships—not meeting product sales quotas or promoting proprietary products.

What You’ll Do

Working alongside senior advisors, you will:

  • Prepare comprehensive financial plans and retirement analyses
  • Assist in developing investment recommendations and portfolio reviews
  • Conduct financial planning, tax, retirement, and estate planning research
  • Prepare meeting agendas, reports, and client presentation materials
  • Attend client meetings and participate in planning discussions
  • Document meeting notes and follow-up action items
  • Analyze investment portfolios and monitor asset allocations
  • Assist with account opening and client onboarding
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and financial planning software
  • Continue developing your technical knowledge and client relationship skills through ongoing mentoring and training

Qualifications

We’re more interested in finding the right person than checking every box.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Financial Planning, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • 0–3 years of experience in financial planning, banking, accounting, investments, or another financial services role
  • CFP® coursework completed or a desire to pursue CFP® certification
  • Series 7 and Series 66 licenses, or the willingness and ability to obtain them
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • A positive attitude and eagerness to learn
  • High ethical standards and a genuine desire to help clients
  • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and credit check as required for employment in the financial services industry

Why Join Our Team?

This isn’t simply an entry-level position. It is an opportunity to develop the skills and experience needed to build a meaningful career in financial planning and wealth management.

You’ll work directly with experienced advisors who are committed to your professional development. Through hands-on experience, mentoring, and increasing responsibility, you will have the opportunity to develop both the technical expertise and client relationship skills necessary to become a successful financial advisor.

As your knowledge, judgment, and client relationship skills develop, the role can evolve into a Financial Advisor position with increasing responsibility for client relationships. Over time, exceptional team members may have the opportunity to assume primary responsibility for established client relationships and play an important role in the long-term future of the firm.

We are looking for someone who wants to build a career, contribute to the success of our clients and our firm, and grow with us for years to come.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $60,000–$80,000 based on experience, qualifications, and licensing
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Retirement plan
  • CFP® education support and professional development
  • One-on-one mentoring from experienced financial advisors
  • Long-term career advancement opportunities

Who Will Thrive Here?

You’ll be successful if you are someone who:

  • Wants to build a long-term career in wealth management
  • Enjoys solving financial problems and helping people
  • Enjoys building lasting relationships and earning clients’ trust
  • Is highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Takes initiative and enjoys continuous learning
  • Communicates professionally and confidently
  • Values honesty, integrity, and putting clients first

If you’re excited about joining an established independent fiduciary firm where you can develop professionally, build meaningful client relationships, and grow into greater responsibility over time, we’d love to hear from you.

Please submit your resume along with a brief cover letter explaining why you’re interested in this opportunity and what attracts you to a career in financial plannin
