Pay range: $20-$24/hour

Summary:

The volunteer engagement specialist leads SourcePoint's efforts to recruit, onboard, support, retain, and recognize more than 600 active volunteers. This highly visible, community-facing position builds relationships with prospective volunteers and community partners while ensuring volunteers have an organized, welcoming, and meaningful experience throughout their service.

Essential Job Functions

Recruitment and Community Engagement

  • Serve as the primary public representative for SourcePoint's volunteer program; build visibility and enthusiasm for volunteer opportunities through in-person outreach, presentations, and relationship-building.
  • Maintain an active recruitment pipeline based on current and anticipated volunteer needs.
  • Proactively collaborate with internal departments to identify unmet needs and design new volunteer roles that advance strategic goals.
  • Partner with the advancement department on community outreach, presentations, partnerships, and other engagement opportunities.

Volunteer Onboarding

  • Manage all aspects of onboarding, including screenings, matching candidates to opportunities, ID badge production, agency compliance checks, orientation, and fingerprinting.

Volunteer Support and Retention

  • Create opportunities that promote volunteer connection, belonging, and continued engagement.
  • Analyze volunteer participation, recruitment, retention, and satisfaction data and recommend strategies to strengthen the volunteer program.

Recognition and Communications

  • Develop regular volunteer communications, including newsletter articles, organizational announcements, service updates, and recognition messages.
  • Provide guidance and support for internal and external award nominations.
  • Conduct annual volunteer surveys and focus groups to assess satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.
  • Track volunteer milestones and administer recognition programs.
  • Coordinate volunteer recognition events in partnership with the community events specialist. 

Program Administration

  • Maintain oversight of volunteer records and database; train other users as needed and conduct regular audits for accuracy.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance for administrative volunteers - delegate tasks, provide training, and support a positive experience.
  • Support employees who supervise volunteers by ensuring compliance with interagency roles, responsibilities, and policies through clear written and verbal communication.
  • Work with the employee success partner to update volunteer handbooks, policies, and volunteer job descriptions.

Measures of Success:

Success in this position includes maintaining accurate volunteer records, providing timely and welcoming onboarding, meeting priority volunteer staffing needs, developing productive community partnerships, and contributing to strong volunteer satisfaction and retention.


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating programs, people, volunteers, or community relationships.
  • Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers.
  • Ability to manage detailed records and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn database systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in human services, communications, nonprofit management, human resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least two years of experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, recruitment, human resources, customer service, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience with Volgistics (preferred).
  • Creative and analytical writing experience (preferred).

Essential Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to move between worksites and accomplish tasks at various locations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to attend events.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required for community outreach, recruitment, and recognition events.
  • Occasional physical activity such as setting up tables; ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
