Job description

TSC's Product Solutions organization is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in embedded systems development, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. This role involves designing, developing, integrating, verifying, and testing embedded software for RF sensor products and systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience developing embedded software systems.
  • Five to seven years of experience in software design and development, including experience supporting complex embedded systems.
  • Extensive experience developing multithreaded applications in modern C++ for embedded Linux platforms.
  • Experience designing modular software architectures for complex embedded systems.
  • Experience interfacing software with hardware devices, serial interfaces, Ethernet, and custom communication protocols.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation, test development, data processing, and engineering utilities.
  • Experience with automated build systems, continuous integration, version control, and software configuration management.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills with the ability to diagnose complex system-level issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing software for defense, aerospace, unmanned systems, robotics, RF systems, electronic warfare, signals intelligence (SIGINT), guidance, navigation, or autonomous platforms.
  • Experience with real-time Linux and deterministic software design.
  • Familiarity with POSIX threads, real-time scheduling, and low-latency software techniques.
  • Experience integrating software with FPGA-based systems, custom hardware, and high-speed data-acquisition devices.
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel interfaces, device drivers, and board support packages.
  • Experience with distributed software architectures, publish-subscribe messaging, and middleware frameworks.
  • Experience with software simulation environments and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Experience with containerized development environments and virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with software safety, secure coding practices, and applicable defense-industry standards.
  • Experience developing automated test frameworks and deployment tools using Python and Bash.
  • Experience with embedded performance analysis, profiling, and optimization tools.
  • An active DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, verify, and test modular, high-performance embedded Linux software systems.
  • Develop scalable, multithreaded applications using modern C++ for embedded Linux platforms.
  • Implement software components and interfaces that emphasize maintainability, modularity, performance, reliability, and testability.
  • Develop and integrate software that interfaces with hardware devices, sensors, networking components, and real-time data-processing pipelines.
  • Support software integration, system bring-up, debugging, performance optimization, and field support activities.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, FPGA, algorithm, and test engineers to implement system-level capabilities.
  • Design and implement networked software using standard IP protocols and distributed communication architectures.
  • Develop Python- and Bash-based tools to automate testing, deployment, data analysis, simulation, and engineering workflows.
  • Participate in software verification, validation, troubleshooting, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, requirements analysis, architecture development, and technical planning.
  • Author and review technical documentation and contribute to customer deliverables.
  • Contribute to software engineering best practices, code quality, automated testing, and technical excellence.
  • Provide technical guidance and code-review feedback to junior engineers and contribute to team-level technical decisions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, automated testing, build systems, and continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
