What does an associate editor do?

An Associate Editor is responsible for supporting the editorial process at a publication or media outlet. Their tasks usually include reviewing submissions, editing articles for clarity and accuracy, coordinating with writers and contributors, and helping manage deadlines. Associate Editors often assist in shaping content strategy and may contribute their own writing as well. They work closely with senior editors to ensure the quality and consistency of published materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate editor?

To excel as an Associate Editor, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often backed by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), style guides (like AP or Chicago), and editing software is typically required. Attention to detail, organization, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing deadlines and collaborating with writers. These abilities ensure content accuracy, quality, and timely publication in a fast-paced editorial environment.

What are some common challenges an associate editor might face when balancing multiple projects and deadlines?

Associate Editors often juggle several articles or publications at once, each with its own timeline and set of contributors. A common challenge is prioritizing tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines while maintaining editorial quality and accuracy. This role requires strong organizational skills and clear communication with writers, senior editors, and other team members to ensure everyone is aligned. Developing efficient workflows and being adaptable to sudden changes—such as urgent revisions or shifting editorial calendars—are essential for success in this fast-paced environment.

Job description

Capture the Moment. Shape the Narrative.

We are in our infancy but our aspiration is to build an aspirational, bold brand and that starts on social. This full-time opportunity is for someone who doesn't just "run social." It is for someone who wants to help build a brand from the ground up, build relationships with audiences, and shape trends rather than follow them.

If you're energized by rolling up your sleeves, moving fast, and building something before the playbook exists, this is your moment!

What You'll Do
  • Be ingrained in 10Beauty HQ and real locations several days per week capturing real, credible content and filming and editing in real-time
  • Ideation and creation of content that supports core content pillars
  • Measure and report on audience engagement and then translate those insights into plans that accelerate successes
  • Translate in-practice insights into repeatable content formats that build a cohesive, differentiated brand across platforms
  • Manage posting, scheduling, and community management across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook
  • Partner with the Brand Director, Co-Founder, and Customer & Product Marketing teams in bi-weekly planning to ensure the social calendar ladders up to clear content pillars
  • Support launches, shoots, events, and key brand moments through proactive content capture
  • Help grow organic presence and inbound interest through consistency, clarity, and point of view
  • Support the creation of both paid and organic social content
What You Have

You're comfortable operating in real environments, moving fast, and making thoughtful decisions without over-production or over-polish.

  • 1-3 years of experience in social media, content creation, or creator support
(Beauty, wellness, fashion, culture, or consumer brands preferred)
  • Native fluency in TikTok and Instagram, formats, trends, and platform nuances
  • Comfortable filming people in real environments at speed
  • Fast, clean editor using tools like CapCut, native platform tools, Premiere, or similar
  • Experience with an integrated tech stack, including AI, for content creation, management, and measurement of social efforts
  • Deep interest in technology, beauty, fashion, or wellness
  • Innate curiosity and a genuine desire to share 10Beauty's product, culture, and team with the world
