Job Description:
Seeking Technical Editor to support an independent NASA Agency-wide organization residing at the NASA Langley Research Center; the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC). This position focuses on engineering excellence for all 10 NASA Centers. The NESC mission is to perform value-added independent testing, analysis, and assessments of NASA's high-risk projects to ensure safety and mission success. The organization engages proactively to help NASA and private sectors to avoid future problems/anomalies. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and dynamic individual who can work in a team environment and can multi-task a wide variety of projects.
Candidate will be responsible for interfacing with individual technical teams and should possess strong multi-tasking skills to meet demanding deadlines. Must be able to understand management direction to generate deliverables in a time-required environment and prepare team-generated technical reports and presentations dealing with advanced subject matter.
The salary range for this position is $54,000-$76,000 commensurate with education and experience.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare written draft and final technical project team documents using templates and instructions provided
  • Distribute draft documents to team members and designated peer reviewers for technical review and feedback
  • Coordinate with the team project manager to meet documentation requirements
  • Review technical documents for clarity, flow, organization, consistency, and to ensure proper usage of formatting, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization in accordance with approved standards
  • Contact the NASA LaRC Export Administration Office to review and determine restrictions on final project team documents (e.g., International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulation (EAR)).
  • Initiate or facilitate teleconferences with technical teams using Microsoft® Teams application sessions as required.

Requirements:
  • Strong working knowledge of Office365, including SharePoint, Teams, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to format and edit detailed documents related to research, science, and engineering projects
  • Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client
  • Must have the ability to balance multiple priorities and respond/produce quality work efficiently with short deadline actions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must put forward professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Technical Writing, Communications, or English
  • 2+ years of technical editing experience
  • Experience working within a NASA and/or large Government environment is also preferred
