What is an associate director?

An Associate Director is a mid- to senior-level management professional who assists the Director in overseeing a department or division within an organization. They help develop strategic plans, manage teams, and ensure projects and initiatives align with organizational goals. Associate Directors often serve as a bridge between upper management and staff, taking on both leadership and operational responsibilities. Their role may also involve budgeting, performance evaluations, and representing the department in meetings. The specific duties can vary depending on the industry and organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate director?

To thrive as an Associate Director, you need strong leadership, strategic planning, and project management skills, typically supported by a relevant bachelor's or master's degree and significant industry experience. Familiarity with budgeting software, CRM systems, and data analysis tools is often required, along with certifications like PMP depending on the sector. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and decision-making abilities help drive teams and projects forward while building strong stakeholder relationships. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring organizational goals are met efficiently and for successfully managing complex initiatives across departments.

Associate Directors are often tasked with both setting long-term strategies and ensuring smooth daily operations. Balancing these responsibilities requires effective time management, delegation, and constant communication with their teams. They usually spend part of their week in meetings focused on organizational goals and performance metrics, while allocating time to oversee project execution and resolve immediate challenges. This dual focus allows them to ensure that their team's work aligns with broader company objectives and that operational issues are addressed promptly.

This role is instrumental in shaping the future of the property through capital planning, sustainability initiatives, and team development. HOW YOU'LL MAKE THE PLACE * Lead the day-to-day security operations across the entire resort. * Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures. * Ensure 24-hour security coverage for all operational areas as needed. * Manage outsourced security providers and ensure contractual compliance and service excellence as required. * Conduct regular patrols and inspections of guest, associate, back-of-house, and perimeter areas. * Oversee access control systems, visitor management, and key control procedures. * Ensure effective CCTV surveillance and monitoring systems are maintained. * Develop and maintain the resort's comprehensive Risk Register. * Conduct regular security and operational risk assessments across all departments. * Identify vulnerabilities and implement mitigation plans. * Carry out routine safety inspections of guest and associate areas. * Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, fire codes, and internal safety policies. * Represent Security in management and associate meetings, fostering cross-departmental collaboration. * Support pre-opening strategy and execution, overseeing all activities within the Security Department, in close partnership with peers and the corporate team. * Maintain readiness for Operational Management Reviews (OMR) and ensure timely follow-up on corrective actions. * Develop and update departmental policies and manuals to ensure consistency across the group. * Build and lead a technically competent and motivated Security team through recruitment, training, and succession planning. * Promote associate engagement through regular communication, recognition programs, and performance feedback. * Uphold discipline and support grievance procedures in partnership with Talent & Culture. * Model Rosewood's culture, vision, and values in all interactions and leadership practices. COULD THIS BE YOU? * You hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in security management, or related field. * You have proven experience in leading a Security department at a senior management level. * You demonstrate strong strategic thinking and project management capabilities. * You show solid business acumen and have experience managing complex budgets, including capital expenditure. * You possess excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. * You manage relationships effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. * You are knowledge of the steps required to meet or exceed compliance with all Fire & Life Safety standards. * You have previously contributed to the successful pre-opening of a luxury hotel. * You maintain a guest-centric mindset with a strong commitment to service excellence. * You apply an analytical, data-driven approach to decision-making. * Your experience in hospitality or luxury environments further strengthens your profile. OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU At Rosewood Hotel Group, your voice is heard and valued. We're a community that encourages associates to be themselves, not fit into a fixed culture, and this philosophy shines through in our commitments to reflect and honor the history, culture and geography of our destinations. We're not only committed to building and nurturing genuine, long-lasting relationships but to transforming them and our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy helps put these principles into practice.
