Associate Director, Sourcing & Procurement in the AI, Cloud & Software category completes projects related to:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, including models, platforms, tooling, data services and related enterprise AI capabilities
  • Cloud technologies and infrastructure, including cloud platforms, content delivery network (CDN) services, hosting and related managed services
  • Enterprise software products and platforms, including SaaS, workflow tools, developer tools and other strategic software solutions
  • Internet of things (IoT) technologies, connected devices and related operational technology solutions
  • Co-development, partnership and other strategic technology agreements, including management of associated enterprise risk and innovation considerations
  • Supplier lifecycle management, cost-benefit analyses and go-to-market support for emerging technology categories
  • Platforms and services that enable secure, scalable enterprise technology adoption and improved operational efficiency

The Associate Director, Sourcing & Procurement is a GL29 individual contributor role that will deliver value to customers; communicate effectively; drive sound, disciplined decisions, and drive high-quality execution. We are looking for a proven professional who is a self-starter with executive presence, contracting experience and a foundation in software sourcing and procurement, with AI experience preferred and cloud experience strongly valued.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support strategies for multiple technology services; manage supplier performance management programs; and execute sourcing and contracting processes. Specifically, this individual will be expected to
  • Work with business teams to understand and support rapidly changing enterprise technology priorities, including AI and IoT use cases; execute negotiation strategies for contracting and requests for information; benchmark rates, negotiate and execute contract terms and conditions (leveraging UnitedHealth Group's internal subject matter experts, with accountability for terms, risk mitigation/compliance and internal protocols), and overall pricing strategy; and ensure supplier compliance with contract terms and conditions and pricing
  • Execute strategic sourcing initiatives across one or more business segments, including, but not limited to, overall sourcing and contracting strategy; and drive strategic sourcing efficiency through implementation of best practices
  • Understand and analyze technology categories and sourcing and contracting strategies; and ensure alignment of enterprise sourcing and contracting efforts, enterprise supply chain strategies with major technology vendors, and applicable business owner/category strategies in accordance with overall business and financial goals
  • Develop relationships with applicable stakeholders and suppliers, including executive level individuals, across the enterprise to serve as a dedicated customer relationship manager and supplier lifecycle owner, and to drive consistent, high-quality delivery of procurement programs and sourcing and contracting initiatives for AI, cloud, software and IoT suppliers
  • Evaluate supplier consolidation strategies, opportunities to leverage supplier spend (including, but not limited to, re-sourcing and re-negotiation of ongoing supplier relationships), cost savings opportunities and cost-benefit analyses; participate in vendor selection and competitive bidding strategy (e.g., RFPs, renegotiations, eSourcing) and leverage sourcing and contracting tools to drive process efficiencies, reduce costs, support time-to-market and manage enterprise risk

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years contract drafting and negotiation experience, particularly technology agreements
  • 3 years of progressive experience supporting software-related sourcing, contracting or procurement initiatives, including technology sourcing projects and /or work in a cross-functional procurement team
  • Solid proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Copilot, and AI Productivity tools
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a high demand multi-tasking environment
  • Proven capability in navigating complex challenges using data-driven analysis, thoughtful alternatives, open-minded evaluation, and well-reasoned strategic planning
  • Proven solid organizational, project management and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Proven ability to concisely articulate positions and persuade leaders from various levels of business and procurement leadership, with strong executive presence
  • Proven solid analytical skills (effectively support decisions on factual data and analysis) and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualification:

  • Direct AI experience preferred; cloud technology experience strongly valued if AI experience is limited; otherwise strong enterprise software experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700    to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
