Job description

Director of Project Management

Parkhurst Talent Group is retained by a national utility infrastructure services company to hire a Director of Project Management. This role leads a national portfolio focused on the inspection, maintenance, and upgrade of steel transmission structures โ€” lattice towers and steel poles.

This is a high-visibility leadership role with significant growth ahead. The portfolio is already among the strongest in the business, and the mandate is to take it further: tighter schedule and delivery control, stronger quality processes, and disciplined financial performance โ€” while expanding into more complex, multi-service offerings over time.

What you'll own

- Strategic leadership of a national portfolio of large and complex utility services programs.

- Direct leadership and development of a project management team.

- Portfolio-level governance: schedule performance, quality assurance, revenue and gross margin accountability, and proactive corrective action.

- Partnership with Operations, Business Development, and Engineering leadership to convert backlog into revenue and margin โ€” including holding cross-functional partners accountable to schedule and scope commitments.

- Executive sponsorship and lead representation in customer-facing project and strategy meetings.

- Project financial management: forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, cost accounting, accruals, and invoicing oversight.

- Contribution to enterprise-wide project management standards, controls, and continuous improvement alongside peer directors.

What we're looking for

- 10+ years of progressive project management experience, including leadership of large or complex programs.

- Demonstrated portfolio ownership with significant financial accountability.

- A quantitative management style โ€” someone who manages to SPI, KPIs, revenue-to-date, and schedule variance, and can say "we're three weeks behind, here's the objective data, how do we recover?"

- Strong executive presence and the ability to drive accountability through influence across teams that don't report to you, up to and including the VP and SVP level.

- Excellent analytical, financial, and problem-solving capability.

- Bachelor's degree in Business or a technical discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related) preferred.

Preferred qualifications

- PMP / PMI certification or equivalent credential.

- Utility, utility services, or telecom industry experience.

- Mechanical, structural, or related engineering background.

- Construction management experience.

Why this role

- Direct executive engagement. This role works closely with the VP level and above across Operations, Business Development, and Solution Consulting โ€” visibility that's unusual at the director level.

- A growing portfolio with room to expand in both scale and service complexity, creating real advancement runway for the director and the project managers underneath them.

- A high-performing team and a collaborative operations organization that's genuinely open to input.

Travel: approximately 10โ€“20% typical, up to 30% during peak periods โ€” primarily short customer visits and occasional field site visits.

Applications are handled directly by Parkhurst Talent Group. Client name shared with candidates during the initial screening conversation.
