Job description

The Director of Housing Operations at High Point University provides strategic oversight of all housing allocation processes and protocols, ensuring efficient and student-centered residential placement. This role supervises professional staff responsible for both incoming and upper-class student housing, while fostering collaboration with key campus partners, including Admissions, Athletics, Honors, and OARS-to support various student populations. The Director also ensures compliance with ADA housing accommodations and oversees policies and support services related to Emotional Support Animals, upholding student rights and institutional responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Required: Master's degree preferred in student personnel/student affairs, humanities, social sciences, psychology, education, counseling or a related field and three years of progressive experience in Housing, Residence Life, or Student Affairs department

Experience and Training

  • 3-5 years' experience in housing operation or higher education experience required

  • Customer service experience required

  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge and experience

  • Experience with StarRez or other housing software

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Excellent reading, communication, collaboration skills and strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organization and planning skills with intricate attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks

  • Some evening and/or weekend in work schedule

  • Capacity to remain calm and make decisions in emergency situations

  • Knowledge of Housing software such as StarRez

  • Knowledge of housing assignments and allocations

  • Ability to analyze and promote efficiencies for housing allocation process

  • Ability to work under limited supervision

  • Proven record of addressing the needs of student residents and the ability to successfully develop and maintain positive relationships with the student community

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides overall oversight and vision for Housing Operations Team

  • Oversees all aspects of the housing assignments process, including first-year, returning, and specialty housing placements.

  • Establishes and assesses operational policies, procedures, and workflows for efficiency and consistency.

  • Leads continuous improvement efforts to enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.

  • Promotes a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and student-centered service.

  • Directly supervises two Assistant Directors of Housing Operation

  • Hires, trains, and evaluates staff; provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.

  • Sets clear expectations, goals, and performance metrics aligned with departmental and institutional priorities.

  • Develops and manages occupancy strategies to maximize bed utilization and support enrollment goals.

  • Leads room selection processes and manage waitlists, room changes, and housing appeals.

  • Ensures impartial and consistent assignment practices aligned with institutional priorities.

  • Serves as primary leader of StarRez Housing management software

  • Oversees system configuration, testing, reporting, and process automation.

  • Analyzes housing data to inform decision-making, forecasting, and strategic planning.

  • Partner with Admissions, Student Affairs, Facilities, and Student Life to support enrollment growth and student experience.

  • Represents Housing at Admission visitation events and Orientation for incoming students.

  • Works with the Assistant Vice President of Housing and Residence Life on assessment initiatives to improve Housing processes

  • Works with Assistant Vice President of Housing and Residence on future planning for housing operations and inventory

  • Other duties as assigned
