At Agios, we are fueled by connections to transform rare diseases. We foster an inclusive, collaborative culture - one that sparks bold thinking and strengthens our connections with each other and with the rare disease communities we serve. We embrace diverse backgrounds with respect, active listening, and a commitment to inclusion - because our differences shape how we hire, collaborate, and innovate. Our team's proven track record of executional excellence, combined with our depth of expertise and dedication, enables us to develop innovative medicines that reflect the priorities of rare disease communities. Our commitment is more than scientific - it's deeply personal, grounded in the meaningful connections we have built. To learn more, visit www.agios.com and follow Agios on LinkedIn and X.
The impact you will make:
Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Associate Director, Field Analytics & Insights to join our Commercial Operations and Analytics team. We want someone who cares about this important work, and who's driven to connect to our mission of helping these patient communities. The primary focus of this role is advanced analytics in support of field leadership: serving as an analytical thought partner who understands the business, anticipating the questions field leaders will need answered, and helping them adjust strategy as market conditions change. The role will support targeting, performance measurement, and dashboards for the current PK deficiency and thalassemia business and will play a major analytical role in our potential launch in sickle cell disease.
Day to day, the Associate Director will analyze healthcare and field data - including patient services hub, claims data, marketing data, and rep call activity data - to answer commercial business questions, lead the development of dashboards, KPIs, and reports for field users, support data-driven targeting and segmentation for field teams, and own the analytical design and integrity of field incentive compensation. Agios uses AI-enabled analytics platforms for much of this work, so hands-on programming in Python or R is helpful but not required. More important is command of the underlying analytical methods: knowing which approach fits a business question, whether the results are sound, and how to turn them into recommendations leaders can act on.
What you will do:
  • Strategic Analytics Partnership: Serve as an analytical thought partner to field leadership and broader commercial leadership. Develop a deep understanding of the business, anticipate the questions field leaders will need answered, and bring forward analyses that inform strategy before they are requested. Ensure corporate sales strategy is pulled through to field-level analytics and execution.
  • Advanced Analytics & Modeling: Analyze healthcare and field data - including medical claims, prescription, specialty pharmacy, patient services hub, marketing data and rep call activity data - applying statistical techniques and predictive modeling to answer commercial business questions. Much of this work runs through Agios's AI-enabled analytics platforms; the Associate Director is responsible for the analytical design and the quality of the results.
  • Dashboarding & AI-Enabled Insights: Lead the development of role-based dashboards, KPIs, and reports for field users, and support the ongoing development of our internal AI-enabled analytics platform. Design metrics, curate underlying data, and rigorously QA insights before they reach stakeholders. Train and enable field users to get the most from these tools.
  • Incentive Compensation Design & Analytics: Lead the analytical design of field incentive compensation plans across sales and national account teams, using historical data and simulations to model expected payouts and test plan mechanics. Provide data-driven recommendations on exception requests and serve as the analytical voice to the IC review committee. Own the accuracy of quarterly payout calculations.
  • Field Targeting & Segmentation: Support and refresh data-driven targeting and segmentation models for field teams, translating analytical outputs into actionable call plans and field priorities in partnership with field leadership and commercial analytics colleagues.
  • Launch Analytics: Provide analytical support for the potential sickle cell disease launch, baseline and performance measurement design, targeting for the expanded team, and launch KPI development.
  • Interpreting Results & Communicating Insights: Interpret findings in the context of business problems, assess implications, and clearly communicate actionable recommendations to cross-functional teams and senior leadership through effective visualization and storytelling.
  • Data Sources & Compliance: Identify internal and external data sources critical to addressing business questions and support their procurement. Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and compliance requirements related to claims data analysis and field reporting.

What you bring:
  • 7+ years within a commercial organization of pharma/biotech, or in a consulting or analytics organization serving pharma/biotech commercial clients, including 3+ years in commercial analytics, field analytics, or data science.
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, segmentation, and related advanced analytics techniques to drive insights and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience working with healthcare datasets, including prescription data, medical claims, anonymous patient-level longitudinal data (APLD), specialty pharmacy data, patient support services (hub) data, and field activity/CRM data.
  • Experience with modern BI and AI-enabled analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or similar); comfort evaluating and QA'ing AI-generated analytical output.
  • Excellent business acumen for understanding commercial operations, marketing strategies, and sales processes within the pharmaceutical industry, with a track record of shaping strategic decisions in partnership with field or commercial leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders, including field leadership and senior management.
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's or MBA preferred. No specific field of study is required.
  • Strong team player with a partnership and collaboration mindset; attention to detail and the ability to work independently, within a multi-disciplinary team, and with external partners and vendors.

Preferred:
  • Rare disease experience; prior product launch experience.
  • Hands-on experience with statistical programming languages (e.g., Python, R, or SAS) for modeling work that goes beyond what AI-enabled platforms provide.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Alteryx, or similar data querying and preparation tools.
  • Experience managing external analytics vendors or data providers.
