The Maintenance Support Associate Engineer provides technical engineering support to substation operations and supports substation operations projects including but not limited to the New Hampshire Distribution Automation capital investment program. This role works closely with field crews, engineering, and project groups to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operation of transmission and distribution assets.
They will will work with complex systems and equipment, while providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. We offer a unique and exciting opportunity to explore the best of both worlds, working both in the office and the field on a variety of interesting projects. Areas of expertise include substation design and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, troubleshooting the electrical protection and control circuits that handles the flow of power, and dealing with acceptance testing of equipment, failures of equipment and analysis of system disturbances.
Participation in emergency response, after hours support, and storm restoration is required.

Essential Functions

  • Support substation operations projects including but not limited to the New Hampshire Eversource Distribution Automation capital investment program.
  • Providedaytodayand emergent technical support for substation operations, including evaluating test results, troubleshooting issues, issuing test and equipment specifications, and recommending solutions.
  • Ensure regulatory and compliance maintenance activities are completed on time withaccuratedocumentation.
  • Prepare and review work orders, construction drawings, proposals, and test results using various enterprise systems.
  • Design, program, test, troubleshoot, and support the installation of electrical, electronic,microprocessorbased, and electromechanical systems used tomonitor, protect, andoperatethe transmission and distribution systems.
  • Develop and issue technical specifications for the procurement and maintenance of substation, SCADA, communication, and automation equipment.
  • Provide engineeringexpertiseto diagnose and resolve malfunctioning electrical andsoftwarebasedequipment.
  • Support maintenance activities including testing, repair, infrared inspection analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Review and improve maintenance practices and procedures; coordinate training on industry standards and equipment.
  • Support capital projects through field guidance, technical recommendations, design modifications, andonsitetroubleshooting.
  • Identifyrecurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions or system improvements.
  • Develop lessons learned documentation and report findings and solutions.
  • Conduct evaluations and support the implementation ofnew technologies, systems, and test equipment.
  • Work closely with Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Projects, and Operations groups to develop technical solutions.
  • Serve as a liaison with internal and external customers, emphasizing safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Assistwith system restoration during storms, emergencies, and assigned emergency response activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of power system engineering, transmission and distribution operations, substation automation, and field communications.
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61850 and associated technologies.
  • Understanding ofcommunication protocols, routable network design, and network topology.
  • Experience with or familiarity with PLC communication and program configuration (preferred).
  • Familiarity with NERC Reliability and Cyber Security (CIP) standards (preferred).
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, including the National Electric Safety Code.
  • Familiarity with substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, reclosers, capacitor banks, reactors, switches, and battery systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, procedures, and test documentation.
  • Strong analytical andproblemsolvingskills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and training to peers and field resources.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across varying technical audiences.
  • Proficiencywith MS Office andwebbasedtools.
  • Strong teamwork, customer focus, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with utility regulatory processes and requirements in New Hampshire is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.

Experience:

  • 0-3 years related experience is required. Engineering design experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid motor vehicleoperator'slicenserequired.
  • Ability to obtain Thermographer Certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available for emergency restoration assignments, includingoffhoursand storm response.
  • Travel within MA/CT/NH, including occasional overnight travel, isrequired.
  • Work performed in office environments, substations, construction sites, and field locations around energized electrical equipment.
  • Use of companyprovided personal protective equipment isrequired.
  • Must be available toassist/supportemergentissues.
