Job description

Manufacturing Engineer

Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. is one of the nation's leading manufacturers of rugged, reliable firearms for the commercial sporting market.

As a full-line manufacturer of American-made firearms, Ruger offers consumers over 400 variations of more than 30 product lines.

Position Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer will lead technical initiatives while upholding Ruger’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork. The role implements LEAN manufacturing principles on the production floor, mentors engineers and interns, and collaborates across functions to foster a productive environment.

Major Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple complex projects using critical/Socratic thinking skills.
  • Develop robust machining and assembly processes for Ruger products, including fixture and gage design (SolidWorks) and cutting tool selection, to produce tight-tolerance components.
  • Implement production quality systems and gauging methods.
  • Program CNC machines using G & M-Code, CAM (Mastercam), and macro programming.
  • Continuously improve processes to reduce cost, improve capability, and ensure quality; root-cause analysis and robust corrective actions.
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure work holding, machining, and gage control meet design intent.
  • Coordinate with tooling and equipment sources internally and externally for development and validation of manufacturing processes.
  • Drive standardization through core competency teams, benchmarking, process standards, and equipment checklists.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and production associates.
  • Support LEAN manufacturing initiatives.
Qualifications
  • BS in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or engineering technology (preferred).
  • Demonstrated practical manufacturing experience.
  • CAD experience (preferred).
  • CNC programming experience (preferred, but not required).
  • Knowledge of CNC metal cutting equipment and processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving/analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of fixture & gage design and use.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles.
  • Knowledge of capability studies, gage R&R, PFMEA, and Kaizen.
  • Strong communication proficiency, organized, detailed.
