Position Overview 

We're seeking an Associate AI Engineer / AI Engineer to build and enhance data solutions and AI initiatives for the business of insurance.

In this role, you will work closely with the Principal Data Architect, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers to build, model, and maintain data solutions as we optimize data architecture and accessibility of large-scale datasets for our global teams. 


What You’ll Do 

  • Use AI-first tools and AI agents to contribute to developmentwithin your team's product area, with guidance from senior engineers 
  • Translate well-defined requirements into buildable specifications to develop and deploy solutions valued by customers 
  • ReviewAI-generated output to enhance code and documentation in alignment with standards for security, privacy, reliability, and quality before merging to production 
  • Track production trends to iterate based on what the data shows
  • Document effective prompts, patterns, and approaches that work for your team
  • Participate in code reviews to enhancecontributions with input from Senior Software Engineers 
  • Exhibit behaviors that exemplify Applied Systems' Values in ActionSupport development of generative AI prototypes, prompt design, and fine-tuned modelsStay current on advancements in Google Cloud, conversational AI, and applied AI engineeringAssist senior engineers and scientists on larger initiatives to scale AI capabilities across the platform
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Can work Hybrid from our Toronto Applied Systems office.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Foundational knowledge of software engineering principles and practices, including documentation, testing, debugging, and data structures
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to write, refactor, or extend code
  • Ability to write clear prompts and iterate to achieve desired outcomes
  • Familiarity with full-stack application concepts: frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure
  • Familiarity with modern, cloud-based technologies and software security practices
  • Basic knowledge of CI/CD and use cases for automated testing
  • Basic knowledge of Agile frameworks and tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, learning-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to one or more of: Go, React, C#, Python
  • Familiarity with common architectural patterns: web applications, APIs, databases, queues
  • Experience evaluating AI-generated output for security, correctness, or quality

The total anticipated annual compensation range for this existing position is CAD $80,000– $120,000 per year, which includes starting base salary and, where applicable, variable or incentive pay.  To determine a new team member’s starting pay, we consider a variety of factors, including someone’s depth, breadth, and variety of experience, skills, and responsibilities.
