JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Delta Utilities is seeking a Gas Engineer to manage small gas projects from design through completion including preparation of plans, specifications, permits and contracts. Design new or relocation pipe facilities to issue orders on natural gas distribution facilities for subdivisions, system improvements, and public improvement projects.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Creates and designs basic gas distribution facilities, transmission system designs, and support systems, including cathodic protection.
  • Prepares project documents, including but not limited to: long range capacity piping plans, easements, permits, bid packages, contracts, relocation agreements, letter agreements, red-line/green-line proposals, regulatory proposals for service area certification, and main replacement program documentation packets.
  • Prepares cost estimates, material specifications and schedules, system capacity and pressure study modeling and analyses.
  • Prepares and submits construction drawings for facilities.
  • Prepares economic feasibility studies and makes customer contribution recommendations for new loads and system replacement work.
  • Provides design support to local gas operations.
  • Prepares operational procedures to complete projects.
  • Communicates and coordinates with district employees, customers, and government agencies. When necessary where corrections need to be made or assisting them with a problem.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil or other approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Associate Gas Engineer: No prior experience required.
  • Gas Engineer: minimum of two years' experience in utility design or related project construction design.
  • Senior Gas Engineer: minimum of five years' experience in utility design or related project construction design AND a Professional Engineer License.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

  • Able to perform other job-related duties as assigned within your scope of responsibilities.
  • Able to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze..
  • Within 6 months after employment, be able to demonstrate working knowledge of company safety rules
  • Acquire the ability to identify abnormal operating conditions.
  • Must have the ability to acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (e.g., accessing electronic mapping information, collecting and interpreting electronic pipe location and leak detection information, etc.).
  • Able to communicate and interact with all levels of management and associates and perform well in a team environment.
  • Able to represent company in a professional manner in all matters such as business etiquette and interactions in meetings with both private and public entities and officials.
  • Able to cultivate relationships and partner with business and community contacts to achieve business results.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to demonstrate and apply excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Able to exert in excess of 30 lb of force occasionally and in excess of 10 lb of force frequently to move objects.
  • Ability to detect natural gas odor.
  • Able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle for multiple-hour trips, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
  • Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs daily.
