Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

Both Associate Dentists and General Dentists hold similar credentials and work in comparable environments. The term "Associate Dentist" often refers to a dentist working as an employee or partner within a practice, while "General Dentist" is a broader term for dentists providing comprehensive dental care. In practice, these roles are often used interchangeably, with the main difference being the context or employment status.

What is an associate dentist?

Associate Dentists are licensed dental professionals who work in dental practices, usually under the supervision or partnership of a senior dentist or practice owner. They provide a wide range of dental services such as exams, cleanings, fillings, and sometimes more specialized procedures. Associate Dentists typically do not own the practice but are employed by the practice owner and may be paid a salary, commission, or a combination of both. This role allows dentists to gain experience, build patient relationships, and sometimes eventually become practice partners or owners themselves.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate dentist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Dentist, you need a dental degree (DDS or DMD), state licensure, and expertise in clinical procedures such as restorative, preventive, and diagnostic dentistry. Familiarity with dental practice management software, digital radiography, and sterilization protocols is also essential. Strong communication, attention to detail, and a compassionate bedside manner help build patient trust and ensure positive experiences. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality care, maintaining patient satisfaction, and adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges an associate dentist might face when joining a new dental practice?

Associate Dentists often encounter challenges such as adapting to the practice’s established protocols, building trust with existing patients, and integrating with the dental team. It can take time to understand the specific workflow, patient management systems, and expectations for productivity. Open communication with senior dentists and staff, as well as a willingness to learn the practice’s culture, can help smooth the transition and foster professional growth.

Job description

Description:

Let's be honest the dental industry has gotten a little ridiculous. Every job posting promises the “highest pay." Every practice claims to have the "best culture." Everyone advertises huge sign on bonuses. But once you look closer...The bonus isn't paid for years. The guaranteed salary disappears after six months. There are restrictive contracts that make it difficult to leave if the practice isn't what you expected. That's not how we do things.

Our Commitment to our Dentists

At Clear Lakes Dental, we believe trust starts before your first day.

No delayed sign on bonus games.

A "$30,000 sign-on bonus" paid after three years isn't really a bonus.

Instead of making you wait years for money you've already earned, we'd rather pay you competitively from day one, AND pay out a large portion of your bonus on your first paycheck.

A guaranteed salary that actually stays guaranteed.

Many practices advertise a guaranteed salary...until it quietly disappears after six months. Not here. You'll receive a guaranteed base salary of $180,000 or 30% of collections, whichever is greater. Your guarantee doesn't vanish because your onboarding period is over.

Your production percentage grows with you.

As your patient base grows, your compensation should too. That's why your collections percentage increases 2% every year, up to 40% of collections. No renegotiating. No guessing. Just a compensation model designed to reward long term success.

CE should never come out of your paycheck.

Some practices reduce your compensation to offset CE expenses. We don't. Your $2,000 biannual CE allowance is provided in addition to your compensation, not instead of it.

We invest in our doctors.
  • Health insurance and 401(k) eligibility after just 3 months
  • Paid malpractice insurance reimbursement
  • Employer-paid CPR certification
  • In-house HIPAA and Bloodborne Pathogen training
  • Paid holidays and Paid Time Off
  • Administrative support that allows you to focus on dentistry not paperwork
Clear Lakes Dental

We're a privately owned, growing dental practice built around a simple philosophy: No Stress. No Drama. We treat patients of all ages, accept nearly all insurance plans, and have an experienced team that allows our doctors to focus on delivering exceptional care. No worrying about HR. No billing. No marketing. No staffing headaches. No operational distractions. Just dentistry.

Compensation

  • Guaranteed $180,000 base salary OR 30% of collections (whichever is greater)
  • Production percentage increases 2% each year, up to 40% of collections
  • Annual earning potential of $180,000-$370,000+

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • $2,000 biannual Continuing Education allowance
  • Malpractice insurance reimbursement
  • Employer-paid CPR certification
  • In-house HIPAA & Bloodborne Pathogen training
  • Employee dental discounts
  • Administrative support
  • Excellent work-life balance

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 9:00 AM-5:30 PM

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose and treat oral diseases
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans
  • Perform restorative and surgical procedures
  • Interpret radiographs and diagnostic findings
  • Educate patients on oral health
  • Deliver high-quality care in a supportive, collaborative environment

If you're looking for a practice that values honesty, rewards your growth, and believes dentists deserve transparency we'd love to talk.

Clear Lakes Dental.
Honest compensation. Supportive culture. Exceptional dentistry.
