About the role
This Software Engineering role requires insatiable curiosity, ingenuity, and grit to identify, test, and recommend technical solutions that can be delivered to customers as software packages.
The software systems developed by the Mission Solutions group are deployed onto physical platforms in dynamic environments. These software systems must interface with a range of internal and external systems, over various types of communications interfaces and protocols. It is imperative for these systems to be robust and reliable to deliver our goal of Mission Assurance to partners and customers. Our software platform is a distributed system with both cloud and embedded components. Therefore, we are particularly interested in candidates with a diverse set of experiences in the development of full stack software systems for robotics, automotive, manufacturing, oil & gas, industrial internet of things, defense, and/or aerospace applications.
As an applied research and product development company, our work is centered on development of solutions for complex problems that presently have no known solutions. To be successful in this organization, all candidates must be proficient at conducting research, employing newly learned concepts from other engineering disciplines on advanced and complex topics, and clearly communicate findings in an actionable manner.
What you'll do
  • Develop various software-based products for both internal and customer projects, leaning on prior experience and hands-on software development skills.
  • Design, document, develop, and integrate software in a wide range of languages.
  • Participate in code reviews of developed software.
  • Optimize software for resource-constrained deployments.
  • Create and maintain unit tests and integration tests to maintain software quality.
  • Manage software development according to continuous integration, continuous development (CI/CD) and DevSecOps best practices. Implement protocol, practices and procedures.
  • Contribute to multiple projects simultaneously and implement software solutions to
    achieve project goals.
  • Effectively plan and deliver multiple software features at the company while maintaining high software standards. Accurately forecast time and level of effort to achieve desired result and deliver on-time.
  • Articulate complex software functions, and development requirements to non-software personnel (such as customers, government representatives, project managers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring project stakeholders understand developed products function.
  • Collaborate closely with other scientists and engineers on multi-disciplinary teams to
    prototype and test new software technologies in the Mission Solutions portfolio.

Desired Qualifications
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a US DoD Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience; OR graduate degree in any of computer science/engineering, electrical engineering,
  • Proficiency with Python and/or Rust
  • Familiarity with any of the following programming languages: C++, Java, JavaScript, C#
  • Experience developing solutions for distributed systems
  • Experience designing software for robotics and real-time systems
  • Experience with middleware technologies like ROS2 and raw DDS
  • Strong debugging skills across local and distributed systems
  • Experience with Docker (containerization)
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Experience using Git for version control
  • Proficiency with at least one area but familiarity with all from embedded software, front-end software, back-end software, and data engineering and analytics
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience and willingness to efficiently integrate AI tools into workflow
  • Experience with marine autonomous systems
  • Experience with physics-based modeling and Digital Engineering
  • Experience with network configurations, protocols, certificates, and best practices.
  • Familiarity integrating with marine sensing platforms and equipment (cameras, radars, IMU, GPS, LiDAR, sonar, DVL, acoustic modems).
  • Working knowledge of linear algebra.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 10% of time.
