Job description

MLT - Medical Lab Technician/Phlebotomist

This is a contract job opportunity. Potential for perm position. Location: Blacksburg, VA. Schedule: 7:30am-4:30pm M-F. Projected duration: 3-5 months + potential for perm. Job code: CVDJP00035435. Benefits are available.

POL setting. Duties will include both MLT & Phlebotomy: drawing blood / Point of care testing, urine microscopic, wet prep.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria. Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls. Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary. Assist with processing of specimens when needed. Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Requirements

Associate's in Medical Lab Technology. In order for candidates to qualify they must meet the CLIA standards for testing personnel: [Candidates must possess at least 1 of the below]-Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science OR BS in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science from an accredited college or university WITH at least 1 year of training or experience in specialty in which testing will be performed. Such training must be equivalent to that received in a school of Medical Technology. OR 90 semester hours from an accredited institution that include the following: 16 semester hours of Biology courses, 16 Semester ours of chemistry [must include atleast 6 hours of inorganic Chemistry], and 3 Semester hours of Math- along with having completed an accredited Clinical Laboratory training program or 1 year of documented Clinical Laboratory Training, or experience in the specialty that testing is to be performed. OR -Associates Degree in Medical Technology.
