Job description

SUMMARY:
The Technician provides assistance to Technology staff in the testing, analysis, and reporting of new material development in conjunction with product development efforts undertaken in the laboratory, pilot plant, and production facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform biological, physical and chemical testing on raw materials, product prototypes and commercial materials according to specified test procedures.
  • Reviews and modifies test methods to ensure accurate and useful data.
  • Participates in the development of new biological test methods and spreadsheets
  • Assists with machine trials, monitoring checkpoints and collecting samples and data.
  • Assists with pilot trials for product development.
  • Performs applications on media test stands and oversees their maintenance and calibration.
  • Formats computer spreadsheet programs and provides other computerized documentation of lab experiments and results.
  • Formulates standardized reports, as required.
  • Maintains laboratory notebook.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate's degree in biology, Chemistry or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-5 years' experience in a laboratory environment handling biologics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in math and science, with biological aptitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work requires repetitive motion of arms/hands, standing for prolonged period, performing frequent bending and twisting motions, lifting of light weight objects, which may potentially result in musculoskeletal stresses.
  • Steady hands and dexterity to perform tasks repeatedly and accurately.
  • Work performed in laboratory environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Work performed in production area with potential exposure to large equipment/machinery and loud noises.
