Job description

High Point University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the Webb School of Engineering. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership, fostering excellence in teaching, research, and service. This role includes overseeing curriculum development, faculty recruitment and development, research initiatives, and student success strategies. The Chair will also work collaboratively with other departments and the Dean to advance the mission of the School and University.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, promoting a culture of academic excellence and innovation.
  • Oversee curriculum development and ensure alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty members, supporting their professional growth and scholarly activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student recruitment, retention, and success.
  • Facilitate and promote research initiatives, encouraging faculty and student participation in scholarly activities.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.
  • Cultivate partnerships with industry, government agencies, and other academic institutions to enhance educational and research opportunities.

Qualifications:
  • An earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • A distinguished record of teaching, research, and service appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting, including curriculum development and faculty supervision.
  • Experience with accreditation processes and standards, particularly ABET accreditation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative and collegial environment among faculty, staff, and students.
