The Role

General Motors is seeking a curious, analytical, and collaborative graduate student to join the Global Customer Research team for Summer 2027. This project-based internship offers hands-on experience using customer and market research to help inform business decisions across General Motors.

As a Global Customer Research Intern, you will support research projects from planning through delivery, analyze customer and market information, and translate findings into clear insights and recommendations. You will work alongside experienced researchers and internal partners to understand customer behavior, identify meaningful themes, and communicate what the findings mean for the business.

This internship is an opportunity to build experience in both quantitative and qualitative research, supplier management, data analysis, storytelling, and executive communication while helping General Motors keep the customer at the center of its decisions.

The Team

The Global Customer Research team helps General Motors understand the people, markets, and behaviors that shape customer decisions. The team gathers, analyzes, and synthesizes the voice of the customer to provide insights that inform business strategy, product development, marketing, and the overall customer experience.

The team partners with leaders and stakeholders across Brand, Product, Marketing, Planning, Program Management, Engineering, and Design. It also works with external research suppliers to design and deliver studies that answer important business questions. As an intern, you will learn from research managers and collaborate with internal and external partners in a supportive, project-focused environment.

WhatYou'llDo

  • Manage research projects and suppliers from beginning to end;holding totime and budget targets.

  • Collect, review, and analyze market research results;identifykey insights from data analysis and recommendappropriate courseof action.

  • Consult with internalstakeholdersto frame the specific learningobjectivesfor primary research, and work alongside the research manager to applyappropriate researchmethodologies that will best fulfill the goal.

  • Provide internal teams with consumer and market insights -including:Brand Teams, Product Teams, Marketing, Planning, Program Management, Engineering, and Design.

  • Develop and deliver effective presentations to inform business decisions and strategic initiatives to multiple GM leadership levels and organizations.

  • Develop quantitative questionnaires and qualitative discussion guides.

  • Conduct special analysesutilizingcurrent data or industry trends to further enhance the research findings.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a master or MBA degree in market research, business administration, economics, statistics, industrial-organizational psychology, or a related field.

  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.

  • Available to work full time (40 hoursper week) during the internship.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Curiosity about people, markets, and the "why" behind customer behavior.

  • Willingness to learn, ask thoughtful questions, take initiative, and contributeina collaborative team environment.

  • Foundational analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to organize information,identifythemes, and communicate clear takeaways.

  • Ability to manage assigned work, meet deadlines, and stay organized across multiple priorities with guidance from the research team.

  • Ability to work effectively with teammates, internal stakeholders, and external suppliers.

  • Foundational ability to use AI-enabled tools for prompt engineering,buildingand using productivity agents, and drafting, editing, and refining professional documents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Curiosity to understand the "why" behind the data and translate findings into clear implications.

  • Proficiencywith Google Workspace, including Slides, Docs, and Sheets.

  • Hands-on experience using AI-enabled tools for data analysis and visualization.

  • Experience evaluating AI-generated outputs for accuracy, quality, bias, traceability, and fitness for purpose.

  • Experience using Qualtrics, including survey programming, JavaScript, StatsiQ, and XM Directory.

  • Familiarity with statistical concepts and applications.

  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative market research methods, including conjoint analysis andMaxDiff.

Start Date

  • Start dates for our Summer 2027 internships are May 24th and June 14th of 2027

Work Location

Hybrid:This role is categorized ashybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Tech Center in Warren, MIthree times per week, at minimum.

GMwill provide aone-time lumpsum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the2027Student Program -to helpfacilitateadministration of relocation benefits, please apply using the permanent address you would move from.
