What You Will Do:

  • We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) to design, deploy and manage highly available, secure, and scalable database solutions in the AWS cloud.
  • This role will focus on optimizing database performance, ensuring data security, and driving automation for database operations.
  • The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with multiple AWS database services, understands modern data architectures, and can collaborate with developers, architects, and DevOps teams to deliver reliable data solutions.
  • Design, implement, and manage AWS-managed databases including RDS (Oracle, PostgreSQL etc.), develop strategies for high availability, replication, failover, and disaster recovery. Migrate on-premises databases to AWS cloud environments using DMS, or native tools.
  • Monitor database performance and tune queries, indexes, and configurations. Implement caching strategies (ElastiCachce, Redis, etc.) to optimize workloads. Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • Implement database encryption, access controls, and key management using KMS and IAM Ensure compliance with industry standards (HIPAA, FedRAMP, SOC 2 etc.) as applicable.
  • Automate provisioning, backups, restores, and monitoring using infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation etc.). Integrate database operations into CI/CD pipelines for schema and data changes. Manage cost optimization for cloud-based database services.
  • Set up monitoring and alerting with CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and third-party tools. Troubleshoot complex database issues across production and non-production environments. Conduct root cause analysis of incidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Work closely with developers, architects, and QA to ensure smooth releases.


What You Will Need:

  • US Citizenship or Green Card is required.
  • Must be able to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DoD "PUBLIC TRUST"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their PUBLIC TRUST prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an ACTIVE PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field. Additional Four (4) experience can be used in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum FIVE (5) years of experience as a DBA, with FIVE (5) years in AWS cloud environments
  • Expertise in AWS database services (RDS, Aurora, Dynamo DB, ElastiCache etc.).
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases. Proficiency with database migration and replication tools (AWS DMS, SCT, native replication).
  • Owns discovery of data systems and data ops, ensures smooth and timely handoff of data systems access, ensures data systems and ops continuity during cutover.
  • Ensures data systems uptime SLA. Owns policy for connection pool size, horizontal and vertical scaling, data system resource usage, slow query monitoring and enforcement, backups, downtime, migrations and disaster recovery.
  • Ownership of services like AWS Aurora (Postgres RDS), AWS DocumentDB, AWS ElastiCache (Redis), AWS CloudFront, AWS S3, AWS Athena, AWS Kinesis, AWS QuickSight
  • Hands on experience with scripting (Python, Bash)
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and collaborate, mentor, help, and support other team members, as needed to solve complex operational and reliability problems.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
  • Knowledge of networking, security, and IAM as applied to databases.
