JOB SUMMARY:

As Network Architect & Team Lead, you will define and implement the strategic network architecture for a global enterprise while leading a team of network engineers. This role combines deep technical expertise in network design with hands-on leadership to ensure scalability, security, and performance across complex hybrid environments. You will drive architectural decisions, mentor technical staff, and collaborate with stakeholders to align network solutions with business objectives.

Essential job functions:

  • Design and document enterprise network architectures, including LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, cloud networking, and wireless systems.
  • Develop network standards, reference architectures, and strategic roadmaps aligned with business goals.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies for scalability and security.
  • Provide technical supervision and mentorship to the network team, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
  • Guide the team through project planning, execution, and delivery of network initiatives.
  • Promote cross-training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement through routine staff meetings.
  • Oversee implementation and maintenance of network infrastructure, including switches, Wireless Access Points, firewalls, and SD-WAN appliances.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex network issues and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Ensure timely execution of upgrades, patches, and changes in compliance with IT change management processes.
  • Partner with IT leadership and global infrastructure teams to align architecture with organizational strategy.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including roadmap discussions, support escalations, and vendor selection.
  • Ensure compliance with internal security policies and regulatory standards (e.g., GMP, GLP, ISO).
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent experience in enterprise network environments will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate, Azure Network Engineer Associate, CompTIA Network+, or similar are desirable.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • 10-15 years of hands-on experience supporting complex enterprise networks.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams or projects and supporting team success through prioritization, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Deep understanding of network devices and technologies including switching, routing, firewalls, SD-WAN, and wireless systems.
  • Strong grasp of network architecture concepts and standards to support design decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required for writing technical documentation and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Experience with network performance monitoring, capacity planning, and optimization.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and execute cross-functional network projects with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with cloud and hybrid network environments, including Microsoft Azure.
  • Familiarity with IP Telephony systems (Avaya or cloud solution preferred), SIP protocols, and unified communication platforms are desirable.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure strongly desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to remain seated or stand at a computer workstation for 90% of the workday, with the remaining 10% involving standing or walking within lab or office environments.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to 50lbs may be required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 10% travel for site support, project work, training, and vendor or team meetings.
