Job DescriptionPosition Summary:

The Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering at Colorado State University requires an enthusiastic professional to join Engineering Technology Services (ETS) in providing high-quality technology-based pedagogical and research solutions for engineering faculty, staff and students. This is a 12-month, full-time Administrative Professional position in a business casual work environment.

The Computing Support Specialist is the first- and second-tier support contact for faculty, staff and students' computer hardware and software needs. This requires technical expertise and innovation along with excellent customer service skills. This individual will work independently, with little direct oversight, to solve problems, build custom solutions, and train student hourly workers.

This individual will focus specifically onsupportof research computing and special projects for faculty,staffand graduate students. This requires the individual to carry a personal or work-provided cell phone, to be available during business hours, to have their own reliable transportation to move computing equipment, and to make local trips for support calls where mileage is not reimbursed.This individual may also be required to bend, climb, and frequentlylift upto 25 pounds/occasionallylift upto 50 pounds.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date.Departmentwill not sponsor a visa for this position.

Description of Work Unit:

Engineering Technology Services (ETS) is responsible for the vision and oversight of all aspects of computing in the College of Engineering, with the exception of the physical network infrastructure. Pedagogical uses of technology, research computing, planning for and maintenance of instructional facilities, technical support for faculty and staff, network management, systems analysis, programming, web-coding, and technical training all fall under the purview ofETS. Networked services are provided to over 3500 engineering students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Advise faculty, staff and students on the appropriate application of computing technology in the performance of laboratory and/or field experiments; to focus specifically on support of research computing for faculty, staff and graduate students;

  • Function as first- and second-tier hardware and software support of computers and workstations; mobile computing devices including notebook computers, tablet computers, and smart phones; and computer peripherals such as printers;

  • Staff CSU Foothills Campus service desk locations in person up to 60% of working hours, and function as primary technical support coordinator for these locations;

  • Provide expert assistance in the installation and configuration of third-party software and build custom desktop computers as needed;

  • Assist individual clients and the organization in evaluating and selecting the appropriate computer hardware and software resources to meet their specific computing needs;

  • Perform and/or supervise the analysis, design, and development of computer software and/or hardware in developing laboratory and experimental facilities involving the interaction of computing equipment and instrument systems;

  • Assist with theoretical approaches in determining the feasibility of computing hardware and software acquisitions and/or design in consideration of system effectiveness, reliability, configuration, and cost;

  • Use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) or System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to image Windows-based computers.

Supervision:
  • Oversee, manage and train student hourly workers.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; or Associate's degree and at least 2 years of work experience in a related field; or a relevant certificate and 3 years of work experience in a related field.

  • Experience working directly with customers and providing functional, high quality technical support for computers and workstations; mobile computing devices including notebook computers, tablet computers, and smart phones; and computer peripherals such as printers

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows and Apple's macOS in a support function

  • Minimum of two years of experience configuring and maintaining Microsoft Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) or Microsoft Intune

  • Experience using and supporting office productivity software, open-source software, security and anti-malware software, and networked devices

  • Experience providing remote support through a variety of methods, from verbal to remote control

  • Demonstrated experience in computer hardware support, repair, and resolution;

  • Experience using modern communications and collaboration technologies ranging from e-mail to cloud-based synchronization software (e.g., Office 365, Teams, Onedrive, Sharepoint).

  • Experience working with ITSM platforms (e.g., Freshservice, ServiceNow, Team Dynamix)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to theprofession;

  • Experience in computer hardware configuration and procurement within the bounds of budget and user softwarerequirements;

  • Support knowledge and experience withLinux;

  • Experience leading or mentoring student employees in an IT heavyenvironment;

  • Experience supporting users in an academic research environment,in particular withthe application of computing methods to scientific and technicalresearch;

  • Ability to provide hardware and software support for custom-designed systems such as embedded systems, and data acquisitiondevices;

  • Proficient with one or more industry-standard engineering-related softwarepackages;

  • Experience with PowerShell, VBScript, or similar scriptinglanguages;

  • Experience with PDQ or other patch management/inventory systems

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to work well with others

  • Advanced organizational skills
