Job description

Position Summary:
Discovery is looking for a talented and passionate Research Associate II to join our dynamic Proteomics team. As a Research Associate II, you will have an impactful contribution to the growth of Discovery Life Sciences and human health. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Proteomics efforts within the company and participate in the application of cutting-edge analytical pipelines in proteomics with an opportunity to work and grow in a fast-paced, multiomic services environment.
A Day in the Life of a Research Associate II at Discovery Life Sciences:
  • Assist with sample accessioning.
  • Perform sample preparation.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise with the lab with the assistance of senior scientist .
  • Assist in reagent stock and ordering.

Must-Have Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience
  • Hands-on experience in standard investigative laboratory capabilities
  • Demonstrated research experience with a focus on basic molecular and analytical techniques
  • Working knowledge of universal precautions, bloodborne pathogens, and handling human specimens
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures
  • Excellent laboratory skills, including proficiency in pipetting, documentation, and procedure
  • Experience converting measurements and preparing chemical solutions and buffers
  • Ability to understand protocols and perform protocols with consistency
  • Capacity to manage time and performance while contributing to multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Senior Scientists and sometimes independently to execute assignments with care, efficiency, and proficiency
  • Demonstrate initiative for taking tasks
  • Engage with given tasks and responsibilities both independently and as a team member
  • Assist in reagent stock and ordering
  • Follow laboratory safety policies and procedures
  • Operate laboratory equipment according to relevant protocols and procedures
  • Perform sample preparation including, but not limited to, sample receipt, sample accessioning, sample plating, and sample processing for analysis platforms such as Olink Explore, Olink Target, Luminex, and mass spectrometry
  • Have a primary responsibility for parts of experiments as well as a growing responsibility for entire experiments and larger projects
  • Troubleshoot issues with help from senior scientists
  • Review initial outcomes for quality and consistency
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebook, tracking work as required
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Company and its operations
  • Maintain professional and courteous interactions with co-workers, clients, and others at Discovery
