GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

A CAD Designer specializes in creating precise technical drawings and 3D models using computer-aided design (CAD) software. The Designer translates conceptual designs, engineering specifications, and sketches into detailed 3D models and 2D drawings essential for manufacturing, construction, and product development. They ensure that designs are accurate, compliant with industry standards, and ready for production or implementation. They bridge the gap between concepts and the final drawings needed to build or produce our products.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models from sketches, specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical drawings, schematics, and layouts for manufacturing, construction, or assembly processes.
  • Lead the design of major components or sub-systems, often managing multiple complex design tasks concurrently.
  • Review and revise existing CAD designs based on feedback from engineers, manufacturing, or clients to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage and maintain CAD file libraries, ensuring proper version control and data integrity across projects.
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate design components and resolve any design-related conflicts or issues.
  • Generate bills of materials (BOMs) and part lists directly from CAD models to support procurement and production planning.
  • Perform detailed drawing reviews to confirm design intent, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with project specifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.
  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.
  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Two-year technical degree in Design, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of combined CAD detailing and design experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in 2D CAD. Moderate 3D modeling experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
