Associate Director, Home Infusion Pharmacy / PIC

The Associate Director, Home Infusion Pharmacy / PIC will oversee various duties related to the fulfillment of prescription orders. Dispensing any or all of the following: unit doses, specialty pharmaceuticals, injectables, IV, enterals and related supplies following state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures. Compounding medications using appropriate components, supplies and sterile / ventilated environment. Processing, packing and shipping outgoing pharmacy orders, ensuring drug, related supplies and patient collateral (education materials) are included. Will also oversee drug / supply ordering and inventory / warehouse duties, including proper storage of drugs and supplies and appropriate refrigeration of perishable product, monitor and adjust / calibrate pharmacy equipment, fill dispensing units.

The Associate Director, Home Infusion Pharmacy / PIC will have approximately 7 direct and 16 indirect reports in the Home Infusion Pharmacy in Houston, TX. The schedule will be a 40 hour work week within the Monday - Friday 8:00am-6:00pm Pharmacy schedule with possible on-call if needed. Must live within a commutable distance to this branch.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the daily activities and tasks of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians team related to dispensing and fulfillment of prescription orders.
  • Monitors operations of business unit and actively assists and provides direction to the team as required using standard policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates work, provides leadership to and reviews the work of assigned staff.
  • Maintains and reviews most effective scheduling of staff to meet the needs and goals of business unit; assigns workload to staff to meet completion dates / deadlines.
  • Works to optimize standardized pharmacy production strategies and improve efficiency of subordinates.
  • Performs or assists the team in performing duties and resolving problems.
  • Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
  • Analyzes, researches, and prepares various reports for management on assigned topics as needed.
  • Interviews, hires new employees, ensures appropriate training, conducts performance reviews, counsels employees, and takes appropriate disciplinary action.
  • Participates and supervises all pharmacy staff with persistent annual, required competencies and didactic learning.
  • Interprets physicians' prescriptions and creates order, clinical documentation, accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from computer system.
  • Cross collaboration with physicians, nursing teams, and case managers involved with the clinical management and coordination of patient care.
  • Oversees, reviews, and handles escalated issues.
  • Responsible and accountable for all pharmacy operations, performance of sterile compounding staff, and environmental management of the Cleanroom Suite in accordance with USP 797.
  • Continuous implementation and adherence of standardized policies to ensure alignment of regulatory and accreditation organizations.
  • Continuous oversight and response to various quality outcomes and performance improvement programs.
  • Responsible for oversight of Inspections, Surveys, and Audits as it pertains to pharmacy operations.
  • Oversees afterhours On-call rotation as pertains to business needs.
  • Responsible to have working knowledge of all federal, state, and local requirements as it pertains to pharmacy operations.
  • Oversight of facilities management and security access of licensed pharmacy areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy or PharmD degree.
  • Current, unrestricted Pharmacist License within applicable state.
  • Willing and able to obtain additional state licensure(s), if necessary.
  • 3+ years of active pharmacist experience.
  • 1+ years of experience leading, overseeing, or supervising tasks / projects of pharmacy staff.
  • Experience and ability to work with leadership, clinicians and able to develop effective working relationships with cross functional staff / departments.
  • Familiarity with some budgeting and reporting activities.
  • Solid understanding of state and federal laws regulations as they pertain to pharmacy.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work outside of regular scheduled hours in order to meet demands of work volume.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of home infusion experience.
  • Pharmacy automation experience.
  • CPR+ pharmacy dispensing platform.
  • Solid collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work / present effectively across functions and with leadership levels.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team; excellent coaching / mentoring skills.
  • Solid analytics and planning capabilities.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
