Position: Referral Care Coordinator

Pay Rate: $14.00/hr (Paid Weekly)
Work Location: Optum โ€“ University Cove Pl, Tampa FL 33613
Schedule: Monday โ€“ Friday, 8:00 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM
Allmed Benefits: Vision Insurance, Health Insurance, Dental Insurance and 401(k)
Contract: 08/10/2026 to 12/07/2026

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Referral Care Coordinator to join our healthcare team in North Tampa. This role is responsible for coordinating patient referrals, scheduling appointments, and ensuring seamless communication between patients, providers, and specialty offices. The ideal candidate has experience with referrals, electronic medical records, and providing exceptional customer service in a fast-paced medical environment.

Team Environment

The Referral Care Coordinator will work closely with a collaborative clinical team consisting of:

  • 2 Providers
  • 1 Clinic Administrator
  • 1 Case Manager
  • 1 Clinic Nurse
  • 3 Medical Assistants
  • 1 Front Desk Receptionist

The team is committed to delivering high-quality patient care through collaboration, communication, and efficient coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and manage patient referrals to specialists and ancillary services
  • Schedule specialty appointments and coordinate referral follow-up
  • Verify referral requirements and ensure all necessary documentation is complete
  • Communicate with patients, providers, specialists, and insurance companies regarding referral status
  • Answer inbound calls and assist with patient inquiries
  • Maintain accurate patient records within the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Track pending referrals and follow up to ensure timely completion
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Support clinic operations with additional administrative duties as needed

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Previous referral coordination experience
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW)
  • Appointment scheduling experience
  • Healthcare call center experience
  • Knowledge of insurance referral and authorization processes
