NOTICE OF VACANCY
CITY CLERK
The City of Wayne, Nebraska, is seeking an organized, detail-oriented professional for the full-time position of City Clerk. Responsibilities include managing City Council agendas, recording official proceedings, maintaining statutory municipal records under Nebraska law, and acting as the public information liaison.
Position Specifications & Details
  • Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours / week)
  • Salary Range: $37.60 to $49.06 per hour (Depending on Qualifications)
  • Reports To: Mayor, City Council and City Administrator
  • Location: 513 Main Street, Wayne, NE 68787
Key Responsibilities
  • Council Support: Prepare, publish, and distribute City Council meeting agendas, packets, and legal notices in compliance with the Nebraska Open Meetings Act. Attend all council meetings and record accurate official minutes.
  • Records Management: Serve as the official custodian of municipal records, maintaining ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and vital documents under the Nebraska Records Management Act. Process public records requests.
  • Licensing & Permits: Issue and record local licenses and permits including liquor, tobacco, etc.
  • Third Party Administrator for City of Wayne Self-Insurance Medical Reimbursement Group Health Plan
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field preferred
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years of administrative or municipal government experience
  • Certifications: Must possess a valid Nebraska Driver's License, ability to be bonded, current Notary Public certification or willing to become a commissioned notary public within six months of employment, willingness to attend the Nebraska Municipal Clerks Institute and Academy to achieve Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) status
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills, and ability to manage sensitive, confidential information
