This position will work closely with their manager to train and develop fundamental claims handling skills.

As an Associate Claims Examiner, you'll begin your career learning how to investigate, evaluate, and help resolve claims. This position will be responsible for the resolution of the resolution of claims of low complexity and exposure.

  • The primary responsibilities include investigating, evaluating, negotiating and resolving assigned claims.
  • Review claim information to determine coverage and recommend appropriate next steps.
  • Assist with evaluating potential exposures on claims and alerting Management or internal partners when needed.
  • Adhere to Fair Claims Practices Regulations and claims handling guidelines.
  • Prepare and distribute claim reports.
  • Participate fully in training, development programs, and learning opportunities across Claims.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders including Underwriting.
  • Contribute to strong customer relationships by delivering top-notch service.
  • Support special projects as assigned, learning cross-functional collaboration within Claims.
  • Mentor with senior examiners and managers to observe negotiation strategies and claim resolution practices.
  • Collaborate with departments across Markel including Claims Vendor Management, Finance, Actuarial, Risk Management, and IT.
  • Travel to other claim offices and conferences as needed.

Education

  • High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Certification

  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of insurance industry and claims a plus.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Pay information:

The hourly rate offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average hourly range for the Associate Claims Examiner is $27.84/hr - $38.27hr with10% incentive.
