Job Title: Associate Engineer
Location: North Chicago, IL
Hire Type: Long-term contract position
Target Pay Rate: $35.00 - $45.00/hour (W2)
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, Onsite

Job Summary:
Our client in the life sciences industry is seeking an Environmental Monitoring Systems Administrator to support Research & Development laboratory operations by administering and maintaining Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) used to monitor temperature-controlled laboratory equipment and environments. This individual will serve as the primary system owner for a new Vaisala environmental monitoring platform while supporting existing monitoring systems. This is an outstanding opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience with engineering systems, laboratory operations, and regulated environments. This role is not intended for mid- or senior-level engineers.

Must Have Skills:
  • 1–3 years of engineering, laboratory, facilities, or equipment support experience
  • Experience supporting laboratory or facility monitoring systems
  • Exposure to environmental monitoring systems (Vaisala viewLinc preferred)
  • Strong project coordination and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Job Duties:
  • Serve as the primary administrator for the Environmental Monitoring System (EMS).
  • Lead the administration and ongoing support of the new Vaisala environmental monitoring platform.
  • Support the implementation and rollout of a new temperature monitoring system across R&D laboratories.
  • Configure system users, permissions, alarms, monitoring points, and reporting functions.
  • Install, commission, and maintain wireless temperature and humidity monitoring devices.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate with Facilities, IT, laboratory personnel, and third-party vendors.
  • Monitor system performance to ensure continuous operation of environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Support system validation, qualification, and documentation activities.
  • Generate reports to support regulatory compliance and internal audits.
  • Maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and configuration records.
  • Participate in engineering projects supporting laboratory equipment and facility improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and additional project work as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred
  • 1–3 years of engineering, laboratory, facilities, or equipment support experience
  • Experience working in a regulated laboratory, pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology, or healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience with environmental monitoring systems such as Vaisala viewLinc, Rees Scientific, or similar platforms is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with cGMP, FDA, or ISO-regulated environments is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
