Position: Editor 
Location: Santa Monica, CA (On-Site)
*Pay Range: $35.00 - $45.00 hourly USD
POSITION SUMMARY:
Company 3 is looking to hire an Editor to join its team! In this role you will act as support for finishing artists on projects assigned to them. Your responsibilities will include but not limited to preparing client turnovers, assembling timelines, dropping in VFX, and preparing timelines for deliveries. 

Possessing a sense of urgency, this position will demonstrate an ability to work within a fast-paced and collaborative environment, deliver accurate and quality work on schedule, and have excellent skills in building relationships and communicating effectively. In an operations capacity, this role requires a highly professional demeanor and diplomacy when dealing with clients, production management, coworkers, and artists. 

Location: This is not a remote position and will require working in studio on a regular basis and you may be required to travel to our multiple locations in the Los Angeles. You must be willing to work overtime and weekends.  

Hours:  Available to work variable shifts, including second shift and swing shift, as necessary per business needs. 


MAIN DUTIES:
The Editor will ensure all elements are properly labeled. They will ensure all lists and references are properly formatted. Notify the project producer and or associate producer of any issues. They will ensure all required elements are present and if not notifying the project producer and or associate producer. They will communicate with the project producer and or associate producer any issues that may arise with elements. They will create restore master, missing, and update EDL(s) and submit to data department. They will use Parse-Conform VAMs for color with provided EDL from online. They will ensure all required color elements are accounted for such as drop-ins, mattes, and conform references. Other duties include:
  • Ensure all project settings are set to the defined department standard. 
  • Flag and contact the project producer and or associate producer on any shots that do not line up to the reference. 
  • Flag and contact the project producer and or associate producer on any shots that are not delivered in the correct color space. 
  • Update the project producer and project manager on any prep issues or spec changes. 

Execution of Job 

  • Non-linear finishing editing for television content, including basic visual effects compositing, beauty fixes and other opticals.  
  • Maintain and contribute to the development of digital workflows by keeping up with current trends and finishing techniques. 
  • Flexible to work around customer and studio needs; ever changing delivery schedules and enduring long hours during peak periods of business. 
  • Maintaining best practices for content security and client confidentiality.   
  • Communicate to artist all project details necessary for the artist to execute the project. 
  • Confirm the details of the laydown requirements, etc. with the project producer and or associate producer. 
  • Communicate any machine downtime to the producer, associate producer and engineering. 
  • Update the project team with any spec and or delivery changes. 

Final Delivery 

  • Communicate with the project producer and or associate producer on any additional request made by the clients in the bay. 
  • Render/Record project per project/workorder specs. 
  • Label elements as requested per project/workorder specs.  
  • Label finished elements clearly to indicate episode, cut number/letter, date, etc. 
  • Quality checking all rendered material for any missing material or corruption.  

Final Billing 

  • Ensure all work orders are filled out with session details.

Communications 

  • Touch base with producer and or associate producer before leaving shift for handoff notes, etc. 
  • Update producer and or associate producer all relevant information for all aspects of the project; Prep and Post. 

Engineering  

  • Reporting all system repair needs via the EMR Jira system. For urgent matters immediately contact the project coordinator(s). 
  • Keep project up-to-date on the status of any situation that directly affects the session and or is deliveries. 

WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have previous experience with media/post industry. They will have experience in conforming longform projects and File based workflow. They will be detail oriented with a strong ability to multi-task and must be a self-starter. They will work well under pressure in a deadline driven environment. They will have a working understanding of the various finishing and mastering SDR and HDR color spaces. They will have BlackMagic Resolve software experience. The ideal candidate will also bring the following:
  • Avid and/or FCP experience plus.
  • Adobe After Effects, Mocha, Sapphire, Boris and Fusion experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of digital capture cameras and files.
  • Knowledge of HDR and Dolby Vision workflows.
  • Background and/or knowledge of offline editing.
  • Knowledge of mobile storage devices and formats.
  • Episodic or Feature Finishing Post-Production Experience.
  • Basic knowledge of offline editing, VFX and sound workflows.
  • Basic knowledge of scheduling the post process.
  • Media Pulse and/ or post-production scheduling software experience.
  • Background and/or knowledge of offline editing.
  • Basic knowledge of task based software (ClickUp, Asana, Jira).
