Qualifications The Naval War College (NWC) is a Professional Military Education (PME) institution serving the nation, the Department of War (DoW) and the U.S. Navy. U.S. graduates earn a Master of Arts degree in National Security & Strategic Studies, accredited by the New England Commission on Higher Education. The College has four main missions: Educate and Develop Leaders; Support Defining the Future Navy and Associated Roles and Missions; Support Combat Readiness; and Strengthen Global Maritime Partnerships. More information on the college can be found at The U.S. Naval War College (NWC), Newport, RI invites applicants for a faculty appointment in the College of Leadership and Ethics (CLE). About the College of Leadership and Ethics . This position falls under the Dean of the College of Leadership and Ethics (CLE). CLE provides leader development across the Navy, Joint Force, DoW and partner nations by delivering the Leadership in the Profession of Arms (LPA) in residence core course, leadership electives, exportable Flag Development courses and Graduate Certificate Programs. CLE takes a multi-disciplinary approach in exploring the many fields of social science that make up leader development, adult learning, ethical decision-making, cognitive development and self-awareness. Responsibilities include developing and evolving leader development curricula in support of NWC students from O-4 to Flag Officer. Candidates will also teach or co-teach both core and elective courses and will be expected to deliver lectures in a variety of public and classroom situations. This position requires travel and may involve embarking on U.S. Navy ships. Required Qualifications and Competencies . An earned doctorate with current experience and substantial credentials as an educator and scholar in one or more of the following areas is required: Organizational Behavior, Leader/ Leadership Development, I/O Psychology, Social Psychology, Positive Psychology, Character Development, Applied Military Ethics, or the study of Leadership and Performance in high pressure situations. Experience in data analytics is desired. Familiarity with the United States military, specifically Department of the Navy, is desired. Applicants must be U.S. citizens capable of obtaining a Secret Security clearance. Appointment . This appointment is governed by provisions of 10 USC § 8748 as delegated by the Secretary of the Navy, and the regulations of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management that apply to "Excepted" appointments under Schedule A. For the successful candidate at the rank of AD-3, the initial term of appointment is expected to be three (3) years in length with provision for renewal dependent on performance. For the successful candidate at the rank of AD-5, the initial term of appointment is expected to be two (2) years in length with provision for renewal dependent on performance. For the successful candidate at the rank of AD-7, the initial term of appointment is expected to be two (2) years in length with provision for renewal dependent on performance. This is a full-time, tenure track appointment. This is not a remote work position. Telework is limited and eligibility is to be determined by the agency policy in accordance with Presidential Memorandum "Return to In-Person Work" of January 20, 2025. The incumbent may be expected to travel on occasion. Candidates selected for employment will be required to comply with all applicable federal regulations and the policies and procedures of the U.S. Naval War College.
