Developer, Learning - Service Operations & Logistics
The Developer is responsible for the design and development of training & knowledge management solutions that support the goals of the Service Operations and Logistics strategic plan. In this role, you will develop engaging curricula and materials aligned with CarMax's Learning standards and partner to support the integration of this material into the Service Operations & Logistics training strategy and initiatives. You will serve as an instructional design consultant, partnering with business partners to develop and deploy training programs that provide measurable impact for our field associates and leaders.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Partner with field and teams across the business to clearly define the training opportunities and learning requirements, provide recommendations on training method and delivery, then own the creation of training and development solutions that deliver measurable, sustainable results.
  • Determine appropriate instructional methods such as self-paced training, group instruction, simulation exercises, role plays, computer-based training and other alternatives to optimize cost, quality, speed and measurable impact to business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain training and communication materials such as workbooks, facilitator guides, multimedia/web-based courses, computer tutorials, videos, case studies and reference guides.
  • Assist with deployment of training and communication materials through multiple platforms including MS Office, SharePoint, Articulate 360, Adobe, Workday, and video production. Serve as technical point of contact for the training implementation, partnering as appropriate to ensure successful deployment to intended audiences.
  • Develop and monitor measurable outcomes, partnering with others to develop appropriate measurement systems to assess training impact.
  • Make recommendations and adjust training processes, programs and materials to improve effectiveness and appropriately satisfy stakeholder needs.
  • Plan and coordinate skills assessments, knowledge organization & storage, training and other materials continually adapting approach to optimize ease of use and business impact.
  • Own the creation of training solutions for small to medium scale projects, serving as a subject matter expert in training design and development.

Purpose of the role
As a Learning Developer, you play a critical role in developing our associates by designing and implementing engaging training materials and courses that strengthen their knowledge and performance. In this role, you will support the department's talent management strategy through specific training programs that support our overall business goals. This position is fast-paced and collaborative and requires prioritizing multiple projects while providing exceptional customer service to business partners and teammates.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • 1-2+ years' experience developing interactive instructional content and eLearning courses
  • Proficiency in eLearning software and systems typically used to design or deploy training such as Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate, Vyond, and Office 365
  • Experience with video editing software a plus
  • Proficient in educational methods and application for adult learning
  • Up to date on latest training methods and practices used in leading companies
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Exceptional writing skills with a strong sense of quality control
  • Experience managing competing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Prior team project / collaborative experience preferred

This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office (Richmond, VA) and associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

The annual salary for this position is:
$55,200.00 - $82,800.00
May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Benefits:
Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
