What is an associate analyst?

Associate Analysts are entry- to mid-level professionals who support senior analysts or managers by conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports in their area of expertise. They often work in fields such as finance, business, marketing, or data analysis. Their responsibilities typically include gathering and interpreting data, identifying trends, and providing actionable insights to help organizations make informed decisions. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build analytical skills and gain experience in their chosen industry.

What are some common challenges associate analysts face when transitioning from academic settings to a professional environment?

Associate Analysts often find that adapting to the fast-paced, deadline-driven nature of professional environments can be challenging compared to academic settings. Unlike structured coursework, projects in the workplace may require juggling multiple tasks, collaborating across departments, and responding to shifting priorities. Developing strong communication and time management skills is essential, as is learning to interpret and present data insights tailored to business needs. Support from more experienced team members and training programs often help new analysts bridge the gap and succeed in their roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a relevant degree in fields like finance, economics, or business. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or business intelligence platforms, along with experience in data visualization software, is often required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are crucial for accurately interpreting data, providing actionable insights, and effectively supporting decision-making processes within an organization.

Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and certifications, but Data Analysts usually have more advanced technical skills and experience.

Do associate analysts make a lot of money?

Associate analysts typically earn a starting salary that is below senior-level roles but can vary depending on industry, location, and company size. Entry-level salaries often range from $50,000 to $70,000 annually, with potential for increases as they gain experience and develop skills in data analysis, reporting, and tools like Excel or SQL.

How do I become an associate analyst?

The role partners extensively with Sales and National Accounts, giving the Associate Analyst / Analyst direct exposure to how marketing drives distribution and a front-row seat to the strategies, channels and relationships that grow the business.
Marketing in financial services is evolving quickly, and this role sits at the center of that change. Beyond keeping fund materials accurate and current, the Associate Analyst / Analyst helps shape campaigns, brings creative ideas to the table and helps the team modernize how content is created, personalized and delivered to financial advisors. The team embraces new tools, including AI-assisted workflows, and values people who test new approaches, take real ownership of their work and grow their responsibilities over time.
This is an excellent opportunity for a curious, creative and detail-oriented professional who wants to build a career in asset management and is energized by a fast-moving environment where no two quarters look the same.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and update materials on a monthly and quarterly cycle, including fund fact sheets, performance flyers, commentary pieces, pitchbooks and product one-pagers; proofread for accuracy against source data
  • Track material expiration and refresh dates; flag pieces requiring re-approval
  • Help maintain brand consistency across all marketing materials, in print and digital, in accordance with the firm's brand standards
  • Identify opportunities to streamline production through templates, automation and AI-assisted tools, and bring creative recommendations to the team
  • Help create and support integrated campaigns across email, web and social channels, from concept and content development through execution and performance tracking
  • Partner with Sales and National Accounts to develop channel-specific materials, respond to field requests and tailor content for key distribution partners
  • Contribute creative ideas for new content formats, campaign angles and ways to differentiate the firm's story with advisors
  • Make routine updates to the public website and advisor portal, including product pages, the literature library and news posts
  • Support digital campaign execution, including formatting content, staging assets and tracking performance
  • Prepare and submit marketing materials for Compliance review, apply required disclosures and standardized performance presentations, and route revisions through to final approval
  • Maintain marketing calendars, project trackers and status reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when verifying data accuracy against source materials
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical and technical skills
  • Creativity and sound judgment in bringing ideas forward while working within brand and regulatory guardrails
  • Strong work ethic with the drive to own deliverables end to end, meet deadlines and follow through on details others might miss
  • Ability to work independently while balancing multiple projects with demanding and changing priorities and deadlines
  • Genuine willingness to learn, experiment with new tools and technologies, and adapt as the marketing landscape evolves
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Interest in financial markets, investment management or financial services
  • General understanding of the financial services industry, mutual funds and ETFs (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of the AP Stylebook (preferred)
  • Experience with content management systems, sales enablement platforms such as Highspot or Seismic, or web publishing tools (preferred)
  • Exposure to email marketing platforms, marketing automation, CRM tools or digital analytics (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar design tools (preferred)
  • Curiosity about AI-assisted content and productivity tools and how they can improve marketing workflows (preferred)
