  • Adaptable- We treat every challenge as an invitation to think creatively and find a better path forward.
  • Aligned - We are united by shared principles and an unwavering commitment to our mission.

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Investigate and resolve account discrepancies to ensure accurate financial records.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and ensure compliance with US GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Support annual audits, regulatory filings, and the preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.

  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, legal counsel, and government agencies as needed.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting and collaborate with staff across departments on budgeting and financial matters.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned in support of departmental and organizational goals.

What You Bring

Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of professional accounting experience, including direct work with general ledger maintenance, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with ASC 958 (nonprofit accounting) and revenue recognition standards (ASC 958-605 / ASC 606) is a meaningful asset.
  • Proficiency in accounting software; working knowledge of cloud-based ERP platforms is expected.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial information.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Sage Intacct; candidates familiar with this platform will have a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in a nonprofit accounting environment, including fund accounting, grant management, and restricted/unrestricted net asset tracking.
  • Familiarity with multi-entity accounting structures and inter-entity allocations.
  • Exposure to accounts payable automation or payment platforms (e.g., MineralTree or similar).
  • Experience supporting audit preparation and working with external auditors.
  • CPA track or active progress toward CPA licensure is a plus.
  • We are seeking a collaborative, mission-driven candidate who is committed to strong nonprofit stewardship and comfortable working within J Street's pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy framework and the broader political and Jewish communal context in which the organization operates.
