Role Summary
Tanner is seeking a motivated and organized Business Development Associate to support the firm’s business development efforts in the Salt Lake City market. This role is designed for a recent graduate or early-career professional who is interested in business development, professional services, relationship-building, event management, and sales support.
The Business Development Associate will work closely with the Director of Business Development and serve as a key support resource for events, sponsorships, inbound leads, CRM management, and coordination between Business Development and Marketing. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, professional, and eager to learn how business development works inside a growing CPA and advisory firm.
The ideal candidates will have the following qualities:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, professional services, sales, marketing, event management, or relationship-building.
  • Professional sales experience, sales internship experience, or customer-facing experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects, deadlines, events, and follow-up items.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional presence and ability to interact with business leaders, partners, prospects, and referral sources.
  • Comfortable learning and using CRM systems.
  • Proactive, creative, and willing to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to attend occasional after-hours business development events, networking events, conferences, and firm-sponsored activities.

Professional responsibilities will include tasks such as the following:
Event and Sponsorship Support
  • Help organize and manage Tanner’s sponsorships, including tracking event dates, sponsorship benefits, deadlines, deliverables, attendees, and follow-up items.
  • Maintain a clear list of sponsorships, relationship owners, key contacts, event timelines, and next steps.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to keep sponsorship owners informed and involved as event details are announced.
  • Support Tanner-hosted and third-party events, including conferences, golf events, networking events, association events, roundtables, and sponsorship activities.
  • Attend certain events on behalf of Business Development when needed and provide a summary of attendees, target companies, referral partners, and overall value of the event.
  • Help evaluate whether events and sponsorships are producing meaningful relationships, referral opportunities, or new business targets.
CRM Support and Data Hygiene
  • Help maintain clean and accurate CRM data, including contact information, company records, relationship notes, and opportunity updates.
  • Assist with CRM maintenance by identifying duplicate records, incomplete information, outdated contacts, and missing next steps.
  • Create and maintain simple CRM support documents, tracking sheets, and process guides for Business Development and firm leaders.
  • Support reporting needs related to business development activity, web leads, events, sponsorships, and pipeline updates.
Inbound Lead and Web Lead Support
  • Help manage inbound web leads in the CRM.
  • Review incoming web lead information and help ensure the lead is entered, assigned, and tracked properly.
Business Development and Marketing Coordination
  • Serve as a support resource between Business Development and Marketing.
  • Help coordinate event and target lists and follow-up lists, sponsorship materials, and post-event reporting.
  • Support communication between the Director of Business Development, Marketing, partners, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with preparation for meetings, events, conferences, and relationship-building activities.
  • Help track key referral partners, strategic relationships, prospects, and follow-up actions.
Director of Business Development Support
  • Provide day-to-day support to the Director of Business Development.
  • Help organize priorities, follow-up items, events, CRM updates, sponsorships, and key relationship activity.
  • Assist with event and association research, event preparation, partner updates, and internal coordination.
  • Help ensure that business development activity is organized, provide clear internal communication, and follow-through.
