Job Summary:
The Library Media Assistant supports the daily operations of the school library/media center by assisting students and staff in accessing resources, promoting literacy, supporting instructional activities, and maintaining an organized, welcoming learning environment. The Library Media Assistant works collaboratively with the Library Media Specialist, teachers, and administrators to provide students with opportunities to develop research, digital literacy, and lifelong learning skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Library Operations
  • Assist with the daily operation and organization of the library/media center.
  • Check in, check out, and renew library materials using the library management system.
  • Shelve, organize, and maintain books, digital resources, and instructional materials.
  • Assist with inventory, collection maintenance, and processing of new materials.
  • Help maintain an orderly, safe, and welcoming library environment.
  • Support the preparation and organization of library displays, book promotions, and literacy activities.
Student Support
  • Assist students in locating, selecting, and utilizing appropriate library resources.
  • Encourage student interest in reading, research, and exploration of information resources.
  • Support students with basic research skills, technology use, and digital citizenship practices.
  • Monitor student behavior and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Provide assistance to individual students and small groups as directed.
Instructional Support
  • Collaborate with the Library Media Specialist and classroom teachers to support curriculum-connected activities.
  • Assist with lessons, projects, and learning activities that integrate library and digital resources.
  • Support students in accessing print and electronic resources.
  • Assist with literacy initiatives, reading programs, and school-wide learning activities.
Technology Support
  • Assist students and staff with basic technology needs related to library resources.

Communication and Collaboration

Qualifications:
Required:
