Job description

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Department: Pharmacy Report to: Pharmacy Manager POSITION SUMMARY: Provides efficient and courteous service to our customers. This includes but is not limited to, processing customers prescriptions, assisting the Pharmacist in filling prescriptions, collecting monies, giving change, filing insurance claims, data entry into the computer, trouble-shooting insurance claims processing problems, counting, and packaging medicines, and receiving merchandise. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (responsibilities include, but are not limited to): - Greets customers when within ten feet and four seconds of contact, by name if possible, during transactions - Process customers prescriptions, by collecting the necessary information for the prescription based on the doctors instructions; assists the Pharmacist in filling prescriptions; enters information into the computer, packs the prescriptions; and files applicable insurance claims. - Calls third party insurance plans when unable to determine appropriate claim filing not achieved. - Collects payment and processes transactions on the Point-of-Sale system. - Provides correct change due to the customer. - Monitors inventory stock levels in Pharmacy, Home Health Care OTC section, and in Automation Device (if applicable) - Receives, unpacks, and checks in-coming pharmacy drugs and supplies. - Checks received merchandise against the purchase requisition or invoice. - Pre-packages and labels various pharmaceutical preparations. - Processes invoices for merchandise received and alerts Retails Support Center of price discrepancies. - Understand and abide by all company policies and procedures - Performs other related duties as needed as assigned by manager OTHER DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: - Use proper safety procedures - Maintain a filing system for memorandums on procedures, third party plans, patient files. - Stocks and/or faces pharmacy Over-the-Counter (OTC) items. - Orders supplies from vendors. - Maintains working area, sales floor areas, shelves, and storage areas to ensure that they are clean and orderly at all times. - Performs quarterly inventory of items in the Automation Device (if applicable) and prepares pharmacy for inventory. -Pull and prepare expired merchandise to be returned to the wholesaler or return company. EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION: - High school / Secondary school diploma or GED - Must be 18 years of age to ring register per company policy - State of Hawaii Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Registration SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Working with the public - Basic mathematical knowledge and cash handling experience preferred - Ability to read and understand formulas and measuring quantities. WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Air condition while in store, subject to outside conditions of heat, rain, and wind while retrieving wagons/helping customers to their car, and chill temperatures if products need to be retrieved from chill - Very fast paced PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
