Job description

Please note:  this position is only available to participants in our workforce development program.

Workforce Trainees will be temporary employees of CEE for a 14-week period earning $19 per hour and working an average of 35 hours per week.

Benefits will include 40 hours of PTO. Typical hours will be approximately 7:30am - 3:30pm. Hours may vary based on the host site but willnotinclude weekends. 

During the first week, Workforce Trainees will continue to refine their skills and practice techniques such as setting up a blower door, auditing, and air sealing. Trainees will also receive training from CEE’s HR related to safety protocols, reporting injuries on worksites, and recording timesheets accurately. 

Beginning the second week, Workforce Trainees will start shadowing experienced professionals in the field. Once a week, trainees will meet at CEE’s Roseville office to discuss and debrief your week in the field with a Building Science Trainer and learn about a variety of building science topics. 

At the end of the traineeship, trainees will be prepared to take the BPI Air Leakage Control Installer (ALCI) or Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) exam. These are industry-recognized credentials. 

Insulation Trainee 

You will be paired with an insulation contractor company experienced in insulation and air sealing. 

  • Assist Crew Members loading the box truck with equipment and supplies before heading to the job site 
  • Learn how to effectively operate an insulation blower machine and techniques for dense packing walls 
  • Follow instructions from the Crew Lead in effectively air sealing and insulating an attic 
  • Communicate effectively with Job Supervisor or Crew Lead on-site as well as your CEE Supervisor on a regular basis 

Energy Auditor Trainee 

You will be paired with a trainer at CEE or a weatherization agency who is experienced in energy auditing. 

  • Assist Energy Auditor and Counselor team in setting up and taking down equipment for energy audits 
  • Perform basic tasks of an energy auditor including using an IR camera (infrared) and blower door machine 
  • Learn and advance your skills in using equipment needed for an energy audit 
  • Inspect attic spaces with guidance from an Energy Auditor 
  • Enter data into CEE Database (CEEtrack) or NEAT weatherization software 
  • Communicate effectively with Energy Auditor and Energy Counselor on-site as well as your CEE Supervisor on a regular basis

HVAC Trainee

You will be paired with an HVAC contractor who is experienced in HVAC installation and technician roles.  

  • Arrive on time to the contractor office or jobsite
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism to staff and customers
  • Shadow and take direction from experienced HVAC technicians
  • Learn how to effectively maintain, troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems
  • Safely use hand and power tools
  • Assist with the installation of HVAC equipment from an experienced HVAC installer
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment, supplies, and inventory as needed
  • Communicate effectively with job supervisor or lead trainer on-site as well as with a CEE Workforce Development supervisor on a regular basis
