Position Summary 

The successful candidate is curious, professional, self-motivated, and articulate in terms of conveying the actions of Walker-Miller Energy Services.  The QA/QC Specialist is responsible for inspecting and reporting on energy efficient equipment and installation of equipment as commissioned.  The position is also responsible for establishing rapport with customers, whether contractors or property management, executing inspections, and reporting all quality assurance observations as required.  You will also be working with others who are passionate about energy efficiency and making a positive impact on the industry.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Embrace and operate within the core values.
  • Coordinate the activities of the QA/QC inspections.
  • Review and update QA/QC systems are updated with reporting efforts to monitor and update inspections as complete.
  • Schedule and conduct on-site inspections within the allotted timeframe.
  • Assess projects to verify work, meet clients and corporate expectations/set quality standards.
  • Maintain and follow QA/QC procedures and operations according to the operations manual
  • Findings of any deficiencies and recommendations for remediation shall be explained in the Inspection Report and forwarded electronically to the Supervisor and Account Manager as soon as possible or within 24 hours of completion of inspection, allowing steps to resolve any deficiencies found during inspection.
  • Highly organized, and efficient with scheduling of visits including grouping of visits geographically considering the designed region.
  • Daily travel to pre-scheduled appointments.
  • Provide a professional appearance appropriate for a representative of Walker-Miller Energy Services
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years of work experience in energy efficiency, the electric or natural gas utility industry, facilities continuous management, HVAC, residential, commercial, and/or industrial lighting, or conservation and energy management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with participants, contractors, customers, clients, and employees
  • Experience in field management or supervision
  • Background preferred in one or more of the following:
    • Building science & design
    • Building envelope
    • Weatherization, or related fields
    • Building maintenance, home inspection
    • HVAC, lighting, controls, / renewable energy
  • Ability to complete detailed inspections of buildings, including crawl spaces and attics.
  • Knowledge of construction tools.
  • Must be a detail-oriented, organized, self-starter, and have an ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to identify and resolve project application issues with customers and trade allies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and other systems
  • Strong data entry skills in tracking systems/databases
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and solve practical problems
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios

Desired Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher with 2 years of continuous work experience in energy efficiency, the electric or natural gas utility industry, facilities management, HVAC, residential, commercial, and/or industrial lighting, or conservation and energy management.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • BPI - Building Analyst Certification, preferred. 

Travel Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% (within Michigan) 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Required to sit, stand, walk; talk and hear; and ability to touch and handle tools and/or controls
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Noise level is typically moderate
