The purpose of the Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management Office within the Division of Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management at Cal State Fullerton is to transform the lives of the students academically, personally and professionally, equipping all with the knowledge and skills required for success. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Vice President for Student Wellness and Residential Experience (Administrator III) to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for key student-facing programs within the division. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management, the Assistant Vice President for Student Wellness and Residential Experience provides strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and operational direction for assigned departments, programs, services, and initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management. The Assistant Vice President serves as a key member of the division's leadership team and collaborates with campus partners to advance institutional priorities related to student success, access, engagement, retention, well-being, and graduation.
The Assistant Vice President develops and implements divisional and institutional strategies, establishes operational priorities, manages resources, and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, CSU, and university policies and regulations. The position provides leadership to directors and managers responsible for a varying portfolio of student-facing services and initiatives and fosters a culture of innovation, accountability, assessment, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
The Assistant Vice President represents the Division of Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment Management in university-wide committees, partnerships, and strategic initiatives and serves as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders. The position promotes inclusive excellence, student-centered decision-making, and organizational effectiveness while supporting the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the university. Essential Qualifications
A master's degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Public Health, Educational Leadership, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field, along with seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education, student affairs, student wellness, residential life, counseling services, health promotion, or related areas, at the director level or above. Candidates should bring five years of supervisory experience managing professional staff and/or complex organizational units, along with demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and operational management within a complex organization, including managing budgets, financial resources, personnel, and operational processes. Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, and assessment strategies is required, as is a demonstrated record of success leading cross-functional initiatives and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve organizational goals.
Knowledge of current issues, trends, and best practices in student affairs, student wellness, mental health services, health promotion, and residential education, along with knowledge of applicable federal, state, CSU, and university regulations and compliance requirements affecting student services. A demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, continuous improvement, and strategic initiatives is essential, as are strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use assessment and data to support decision-making. The role also requires excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; a proven ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, community partners, and external stakeholders; and a demonstrated commitment to student success, inclusive excellence, well-being, and student-centered service.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Public Health, Student Affairs, or a related discipline is preferred. Ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in student affairs, student wellness, housing and residential life, counseling and psychological services, health services, or related functional areas. Experience at a California State University campus or another large public higher education institution. Experience overseeing multiple departments with responsibility for housing and residential life, counseling services, health and wellness programs, case management, crisis response, or related student support functions. Demonstrated success leading university-wide initiatives focused on student well-being, mental health, student engagement, retention, and student success. Experience managing significant operating budgets and multiple funding sources, including student fee-funded operations. Experience leading complex organizational change, strategic planning, and process improvement initiatives. Experience responding to student crises, behavioral intervention, threat assessment, and risk management issues within a university setting. Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing programs that advance student belonging, well-being, access, and success. Demonstrated experience in strategic and systems thinking; leading organizational change and innovation; crisis management and organizational resilience; fostering collaborative leadership and building consensus among diverse stakeholders; fiscal stewardship and resource management; assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts; talent development, coaching, and succession planning; and effectively navigating complex political and organizational environments.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
